MB Welcomes A Hero Falls

I first heard about this band from my homeboy, DD, who's Facebook friend is the mother of one of the players. Usually that kind of referral is an underwhelming dissappointment. Not this time. A Hero Falls (a name derived from a video/score by John Williams for Episode III of Star Wars) is another very slick, female-fronted alt-rock band (lotta that goin' around these days e.g. 34 Bliss) from Howell, MI. Things are happening locally for this band. After hitting the road running (Hayloft, Crofoot, Mac's Bar, Bullfrog) including several rounds of BOTBs, A Hero Falls released their EP "Stable Ground" at The Howell Opera House last June, They've been covered in The Livingston Daily and they just completed an interview with Impact 88.9 FM (East Lansing) for their show The Basement (which you can view here). Now they're the number one requested band on Radio Opie's People's Choice Countdown. And for good reason; they've set a high bar for anyone who wants to knock them out of that spot. A Hero Falls is a band to watch. MB welcomes A Hero Falls to our Original Artists / Alternative category. - Mitch

MB Welcomes Wearing Dead Faces

MB Welcomes Wearing Dead Faces to our newly created Original Artists / Folk Rock category. They remind me very much of the only other band in this category so far, Doop & The Inside Outlaws - they both have that blue-collar, rustbelt kind of sound. WDF describe their sound as "Music for the mentally unstable...baked in the 70s" -which seems appropriate, as the very first song I heard on their ReverbNation page, "Descendents Of Aliens", reminds me of Syd Barrett for some reason. It's a song seemingly derived from a casual conversation with a friend about extra-terrestrial origins. What sounds like an impromptu, live performance really captures the weirdness and "alienation" of the subject matter. "Ya gotta tell your children, Mike, that God is a mothership." Singer "aylius dick" (uh, yeah) has a gritty soul to his voice that sells it convincingly. From there WDF move on to a folky blue-collar ballad called, "Luck & The Lack Therof" which includes short rapping interludes and liberal use of the word, "Fuck" - which is entirely appropriate to the hard-luck, outta-work, losing-faith-in-the-system lyrics. "Titty Monster" is a bluesy, rocking comparative analysis of specific racial anatomy. That's the kindess way I can think to put it. It's clear that whoever this is wishes to remain aonoymous, but I'm definitely curious. - Mitch

The Creeps live by a three point mission statment...keep it loud, keep it catchy and make 'em come back for more! The group uses 1st wave punk rock, 80s metal and adds a splash of sleazy b-grade movie horror imagery to the mix. Their sound has been compared to Alice Cooper, Cheap Trick, Motorhead, The Ramones and The Clash. These guys have been gigging everywhere and anywhere over the last 2 years to promote their 1st self-released cd Does this taste Funny? and they've now partnered with Jib Machine Records to release their next offering Meat The Creeps in 2010.'

Predating the earliest sound systems they were created to be acoustically perfect. Every small town had one. Michigan at one time had many from its south western most border to Detroit and points north. Today many of these theaters still stand, painstakingly restored and faithfully tended. Now as a musician you can play many of these theaters and stand where the earliest stars of stage and screen stood.

The promoters of south central Michigan's newest film and music festival are looking for select Michigan bands and spoken word performers to play these venues. Those chosen will have the opportunity to play at the first ever Jaxon Film and Music Fest.
