That's fascinating and very clever.

I just heard a story about how research scientists gave test patients the choice between very low cost, discounted drugs to treat a specific condition or very expensive placebos. Most people chose the very expensive placebos - and showed a better improvement in symptoms after doing it!

So it just goes to show you - it's the perceived value that's important to the consumer and his/her brain.

I wonder how many of those $300 albums are already on eBay?

This seems to relate directly back to the "Fat Package" deal posted in an article recently on this site. One of the offerings was a package of music, videos and pictures that was sold for $75.00 acording to the article.

The article is not clear but it looks like the $300.00 package included a creative commons license to redestribute the music.

I did the math 2,500 X $300 = $750,000.

Some of the indie bands on myspace get over a million page views. Seems like they could do something with this aproach and bypass the record companies all together.

These guys are from my home town. My daughter went to school with some of them.
