bigsexysoundman writes After a long hiatus 'The Dish' is back and it feels good. Man, there's so much to tell you all about,so here we go!
Had a good start to the new year with the B.R.I.C.K. show at The Emerald. It was the first show put together by the Detroit Choppers and they did a great job, special props to Mike at the choppers. I had a blast, I mixed all the bands and everybody kicked ass. Some things that stood out were Critical Bill's monster stage show and Killin the Norm adding a dj. It's always good to take it to the next level if you can do it right and both did. And of course Koyl, Behind Every Smile, Ink Vine and Riot In Progress all gave noteworthy perfomances. It was a night of some of Detroit's best headliners... Click "Read More" below.
Back on Jan. 28 I did a show with Critical Bill at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor. Not bad for a Wednesday gig. Checked out a band called 'Coon', all brothers and they could jam. Kind of a hard funk thing - very cool. Also I bumped into Rob Corddry of the 'Daily Show w/ Jon Stewart. Rob does a lot of the feild interveiws, a very cool guy. He liked Critical's stuff and we gave him a tshirt and cd ,got his e-mail address and he told us to let him know when we come out to the NYC and maybe hook us up with a gig. It was a good night.
Been hangin out with 'LAST' and Eddie from Wolf Records lately doin' shows at Boney's, which is a cool little place to do a intimate show, and also PUB 1281 which is another smaller venue to play. They are both a good alternitive when you can't find a gig at a bigger club. Of course you have to supply your own P.A. But hey the MGT is cool so what the hell. And one more thing, HOT ROCKS needs to get serious and either bring in a sound system or make it worth while for the bands to bring in there own system. Don't get me wrong, everyone there has been very friendly and helped anyway they could but to be a viable alternative they need to make some changes. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
Something else has been bothering me lately.
There seems to be alot of bands breaking up or are going to break up or changing members for no good reason. I know being in a band is like being married. You spend more time together than with your family. But after putting in years of sweat and hard work and dedication, it's all flushed down the shitter because somebody's being selfish or on a power trip. Sometimes changes have to be made, let's just start making them for the right reasons. One peice of advice I give bands is to watch the Aerosmith video 'The Making of Pump'. It shows how the pros deal with the everyday bullshit and stress of being in a rock band.Check it out,you will learn something.
And now for 'the dish'.We really have been needing an infusion of REAL metal back in the Detriot scene and guess who's back?HMR! Man it's been along time, Jay and the guys have been freinds of mine for a long time and its good to have them back. And how about Koyl? Psychopathic Records is taking a look. Hopefully something will happen. And last Critical Bill is taking it to the next level by re-recording there cd at a top notch facility. They found some investers and are going to polish it up and shop it in europe in March. Good luck to my boys they have worked hard. Speaking of CB they will be having a huge show at the 'Hayloft' in Mt Cemens on Feb 28 with 'Jocaine' who was just signed thanks to Kracker and 'Killin the Norm' who has been really picking up steam. No walk ins on this show only ticket sales available thru Ticketmaster and the band members. But hurry because it will be sold out in no time.
Well thats the dish for now,see ya soon. PEACE OUT.
