 Tangerine Trousers CD Release Concert
ttrousers writes June 21, 2003
The Ark - Ann Arbor, MI

Tangerine Trousers wowed the nearly packed house at The Ark for their CD release party. Their newly released CD "Dressed For Success" shows a major step in songwriting and production for the band. It is a fantastic listen.

That being said, you don't know the Trousers until you have seen them live. On this particular night, all members of the band carried an air of confidence that is rarely seen in live shows. Each member of the Tangerine Trousers is a gifted musician and showman (or showgirl...no wait that's not right...sorry, CJ!). The live Tangerine Trouser experience gives you solid musicianship, but they feed off of each other in a way that is so much fun to watch. They have fun on-stage which in turn gets the audience caught up in the whole deal.
I arrived late to the show, and the first thing I noticed as I walked in was how riveted to the stage the entire audience was. Sitting on the edge of their seats not wanting to miss a single nuance. After each tune the crowd went nuts. Reacting to the brand new songs they have never heard before tonight. The musicianship was tight and the demeanor was loose...you can't ask for more than that from a live act.

But more you got! The second set began with John Milroy taking a rare solo vocal with just his acoustic guitar. Than his lovely wife CJ joined him for the next tune, followed by Mark Iannace in his now trademark Tangerine Trousers, and newest member Luke Sayers who has really brought the Trousers to the next level as a band.. Luke was joined by his co-hort in the rhythm section Michael Hacala, and finally guitarist Patrick Shanley joined the stage. As a quick side, Patrick has never played better than he is now, and his slide work is fantastic. From there on it was a masterful mix of new songs and old favorites (many from the previous CD "far above rubies") and a good time was had by all.

The part of the show that moved me the most, however, was the encore section. Young Luke has become quite the songwriter, and has written a song about his grandmother who passed away recently. This was the first time The Trousers had performed the song in public. An emotional Luke, with family in the audience, made his way through a beautiful tune with heart-felt lyrics that left not a dry eye in the house. Add to that the beautiful harmonies that The Trousers bring to the table and the whole room filled with emotion. That is the one thing I think you get at a Tangerine Trouser show that you'd be hard-pressed to get anywhere else...you feel as if you know each individual on-stage...so it's like spending a night-out with 6 very cool friends (who just happen to be great musicians as well)!
