Random Acts of Music: American Legion Post 386
Now that code ORANGE has finally changed back to code YELLOW I bet you think you're safe again, right? Well, you may be safe from terrorists, but you'll never be safe from Michiganbands.com Random Acts of Music. We traveled all the way to Eastpointe, in the midst of the years biggest snow storm, to reward a couple of poor sods tending bar for the Kilkenny CD Release Party wsg The Beggars. Click "Read More" to check out these frosty mugs.

Victim: Jake Neff
Home: Canton, MI
CD: Tangent (four-song ep)

It's not that he had to pour free beer all night, or even that he had to continuously mop up dirty slush in the entrance that put that scowl on American Legion Post 386 bartender Jake Neff's face. Nope, I think he's just a hard-ass! To prove it, he chose Tangent's four-song debut ep for the long, snowy ride home - that is, after he mopped the floor again, cleaned the bar, separated all the returnables, re-boxed the pretzels and turned off the lights at 1 a.m. Ok, maybe he has a good reason to scowl, but I'll bet he was bangin' his head all the way back to Canton.

Victim: Paul Nucci
Home: Ypsilanti, MI
CD: Lucy Webster's "In My Opinion"

Bartender Paul Nucci knows better than to stay out all night in a snow storm, get doused in cheap beer by complete strangers and come home empty-handed. He chose Grand Rapids folkster Lucy Webster's smash debut "In My Opinion" as a gift for his girl. Personally, I think he'll keep the CD for himself but he's just too embarassed to admit it in front of Jake. In any case, Paul, you're going to dig the Joni Mitchell vibe she has on that disc. You can also read an interview with Lucy Webster or a review of her latest CD right here on Michiganbands.com.
