''Sleep Tight Ya Morons'' May be Power-Pop Classic

Artist: Caulfield

Release: sleep tight, ya morons

Label: Storm Records

review by Mitch Phillips

With the release of Caufield's, "...sleep tight, ya morons," Storm Records out of Royal Oak, MI may have a power-pop classic on their hands. Featuring twelve tracks of intense, adrenalized rock for disaffected youth or anybody else with an attitude and some energy to burn, Caulfield has captured the genre better than any other act I've heard this year with their smart lyrics, hyper-agressive performances and hook-sharp songwriting. Named after Holden Caulfield, (the emotionally exhausted central character of J.D. Salinger's cult-classic, "Catcher in the Rye," who expresses his contempt for the hypocrisy of the adult world) the band has risen to the necessary task of communicating their own feelings of neglect, ostracism, confusion and estrangement. Lyricist and vocalist Noah Schusterbaur, (adeptly supported by Matt Collin on Drums and Kevin McCoy on Bass) expresses this mind-set so skillfully and sincerely, without lapsing into pop-cynicism, crass vulgarity or a cartoonish whine, it makes me wish I could have experienced this album skateboarding parking lots as an alienated teen pondering the insanity of the "grown-up" value system surffocating me. But it's probably just as well; working those demons at these tempos might have resulted in attempting acrobatics that were beyond my skill. THIS RECORD IS A RARE MUST-HAVE.- Mitch
