THE HOOLAPOPPERS REUNITE FOR ONE DETROIT SHOW

Static Records announces the reunion of The Hoolapoppers for one show only on Saturday, October 10, 9pm at the New Way Bar. Opening the show are The Zimmerman Twins from Toledo, Ohio.

The Hoolapoppers were a local pop rock quartet that hit the music scene in the mid-90s and lasted only a few short years, but in that time they made a name for themselves around the Midwest with their 1996 album “Trout Farm.”  The album featured the popular single “Phoebe Cates (Is Dead)” which became a local rock radio hit and a college radio staple around the Midwest. Other songs such as “(I Feel Like) Bob Dylan” and “Rockstar” had indie rock music critics praising the band for their “Good, solid, pop rock tunes.”

The band disbanded shortly after the album was released to pursue other work interests out of state. During this time, the two Detroit residents and two Las Vegas transplants continued to play shows in both cities before calling it a day. The band members are all still active in the entertainment and music world. Founding member- Grammy and Emmy award winner -John McClain is an engineer and owner of the multi-award winning Dog and Pony Studios of Las Vegas. He won a 2001 Grammy Award for recording engineer for the George Carlin album “More Napalm and Silly Putty” and an Emmy for work on HBO’s “De La Hoya/Mayweather 24/7.” Also residing in Las Vegas is drummer Paul Haines, who hosts his own popular radio show DigiVegas Podcast.com. Guitarist Ken Haas works for Detroit’s own Reverend Guitars and performs in The Polka Floyd Show, a “Pink Floyd done polka style” tribute band and The Zimmerman Twins out of Toledo. Bassist Jason Bowes is still pounding the bass with the new local band Fidrych.

After 13 years the band is reuniting to celebrate the October birthdays of three of the band members and to revisit the old songs again. The album “Trout Farm will be available for sale at the show for only $5.

The New Way Bar is located at 23130 Woodward Avenue in Ferndale, 248-545-0944 21 & over welcome and cover is $5.
