Now that our so-called representatives have sold us down the river and we'll be renting refrigerator boxes from JPMorgan Chase well into the future, the need for musical escapism is more important that ever. So on a randomized safari through our band links section I thought it particularly serendipitous to discover the music of Muruga & The Global Village Ceremonial Band in our Original Artists/World & Ethnic Music category. The leading track on Muruga's Amie St. web page, "Rock The Planet", has that bizarro P-Funk vibe, like you drank way too much cheap wine and wandered into a block party in some forgotten corner of Detroit and you don't care if you ever get home. The kind of vibe that gives you permission to smoke whatever is passed to you in a circle of strangers. That kinda vibe. The best part - you can get five of Muruga's funky surreal sonic-scapes on Aime St.for just $1.10 and that's better than a bag full of sliders after a night on 8 Mile - and you don't even have to go there.
