Novi, MI: The Rock Financial Showplace will introduce a brand new concept in music trade shows this September. The new Metro Music Expo, making its debut on September 12-14, 2008, will offer musicians exposure to every imaginable aspect of making and marketing music during a single three day event. Features will include new and gently used instruments, an expansive record store featuring vintage vinyl, equipment and electronics manufacturers, stage clothing, recording studios, web development, videography, and more, in addition to a seminar series addressing topics from booking and promotion to distribution. New Music Expo offers Fun and Opportunity for Musicians of All Ages
“So many music industry events are geared more toward the corporate level,” says Erin Woody, MME Director, “We have felt for a long time that since Detroit is so well known for its music, and there are so many bands and musicians playing here, there should be a local conference that is easily accessible to everyone, to help our talent grow even more. It will bring together musicians and music lovers from every genre and skill level, the possibilities are endless.”
The MME will become one of a handful of annual events that the Rock Financial Showplace produces internally; the remainder are staged by independent promoters that lease space. “We have big, long-range plans for the Metro Music Expo” says Woody, “In the future we plan to grow the showcasing and performance aspects of it in neighboring clubs and other venues, and also partner with school systems to plan a day dedicated to young musical students.” For 2008, the trade show and conference are being emphasized; there will be very few performance slots during the first year event. Max Kittel of EPM Three event marketing services in Nashville is co-producing the event with the Rock Financial Showplace.
To maintain the quality of the overall show experience, the number of exhibitors in specific categories will be limited. For additional information, or to propose a seminar or presentation topic, please contact 248.348.5600, ext 236. “The more participation and input we can get from the musical community, the more beneficial and fun the Metro Music Expo will be,” says Woody, “Detroit really deserves a phenomenal music expo. We want this to become a giant playground for people who love music."
Exhibit spaces start at $750 and tickets for the Metro Music Expo are $10 per day, $25 for the weekend, including access to clinics and seminars, and will be available at the door during the event. The Rock Financial Showplace is located at 46100 Grand River, Novi, 248.348-5600, www.metromusicexpo.com.
