Celebrate the explosion of art that occurred during the 1920's while heralding in the new golden age of art in Detroit!

Although each individual component of the Roaring 20's Masquerade Ball would make for a fun evening out on the town, it's the grandness of this event that sets it apart from all others. The Roaring 20's Masquerade Ball is a Sound & Vision Musical that tells the tale of Nick Fudrich, a Detroit River dock worker during the prohibition era. As with the finest fashion collections, several common threads are used to tie together the individual components of this production: Music, fashion and staging inspired by the 1920's. Actors to give the event its grounding. And a bold narrator.

Event Background
The Roaring 20's Masquerade Ball is the second event in a series that started in 2004 with the Halloween Masquerade Ball. This latest event builds on the earlier success and continues with the mission first developed several years ago by Tom Libertiny an art aficionado and member of Libertiny Financial: "Bring together, musicians, artists, creative people, local communities, churches and business folks in order to support local art AND raise funds for worthwhile charities."

For the Roaring 20's Masquerade Ball, Libertiny has partnered with Josefine, owner of Detroit's CatharticMedia who is managing the fashion show and Rich Rice, Director of Operation at Detroit by Design who is managing marketing. In addition, Camilo Pardo, automotive designer of the new Ford GT supercar has agreed to hold the event at his Bankle building in Detroit. Rounding out the team is Elaine Greene, Executive Director of Friends for the Dearborn Animal Shelter, this event's charity.

"All of us on this team have volunteered for a variety of local and national not-for-profits over the years," Libertiny says. "The artist community has done a good job of raising funds for the primary goal of charities, but we struggle to raise a smaller amount of money to keep their full-time operations running. The monthly fluctuation in available funds is very stressful for the hardworking staff and also takes time away from their primary goal."

Because we historically ask venues and artists to not only give of their time, but to do so without any monetary compensation, while most venues and artists agree to help, it's not their number one priority since they like to be able to "eat." Therefore they choose to participate in events that pay them first and we end up with only a few fund raising events per year.

In 2004, the Halloween Masquerade Ball changed all of that by paying both the venue and artists a fair amount of money while raising funds for Habitat for Humanity-Detroit: The combined artistic, community, and business model was proven successful. We're now focused on doing regular fund raising events throughout North America for worthwhile charities. This will go a long way to giving charities a regular source of money for their ongoing operations.

About Friends for the Dearborn Animal Shelter

Our mission is to provide loving care and sanctuary to animals, encourage adoptions and reunions, and promote respect, responsibility, and compassion for all animals.

Animals Are the Heart of Our Mission

Formed in 1993 by a small group of people who wanted to improve the conditions for the animals at the Shelter and promote their adoption into loving homes. The Friends is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless and owned animals.

When we began in 1993, there was no adoption screening and animals were sold for $5. We worked closely with the Mayor and the Chief of Police and in 1995 submitted a proposal to the City to actually run the Shelter. This was approved by the City Council and in July of 1996, we took over. We hired a licensed veterinary technical to manage the Shelter and instituted significant policy changes. All animals adopted from our Shelter are now fully vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and are identified by a microchip.

We also participate in over 50 community outreach programs including low cost spay/neuter clinics, offsite adoptions, City events, and a golf outing in June. We care for over 2,500 animals a year at the Shelter and are grateful for our more than 100 active volunteers. You can visit our web site at www.dearborn-animals.com for more information on us.

Our dream has always been to build a new Shelter facility and we are so excited that we are now in the finance and design phases. It is being planned as a true community service and will offer not only homeless animal care and adoptions but also a retail store and various services including training, boarding, and grooming.
