2004 Halloween Masquerade Ball
|
 |
jackieblue writes: Webmaster Note: Tom from Jackie Blue has recently been working on a number of
projects to address some of the issues confronting unsigned artists. This
latest project is aimed at the dilemma that most unsigned artists face, how to
balance the benefits of "exposure" against the need to make a living
at what they do. The idea is a simple one. Artists get paid for their time
and money is raised for a worth cause. Read on for the full story.
The 2004 Halloween Masquerade Ball, 30 October (Detroit) is a test event for an idea that Jackie Blue has been working on for several years. Our mission for this event (and future ones) is to bring together, musicians, artists, creative people, local communities and business folks in order to support local art AND raise funds for worthwhile charities.
After several years of preparation work, we're now ready to put our money where our mouth is: Our first project is to support Habitat for Humanity-Detroit with our Halloween Masquerade Ball event on 30 October in Detroit. As a long-time volunteer contributor to Habitat for Humanity, we do a good job of raising funds for the building of homes (our primary goal), but a poor job of raising a smaller amount of funds to keep Habitat for Humanity-Detroit's full-time staff paid. The monthly fluctuations in money available to pay Habitat's staff is very tough on them and also takes time away from their primary goal.

Long Black Sedan Bids Farewell
|
HellBilly Rockers, Long Black Sedan, have disbanded due to "creative
differences". Here is the statement from their website:
"Due to creative differences LBS is no longer. Thank you to everyone that came to the shows and supported the band. At this time there are no future LBS shows planned or any new records, but you never know. Some where down the line you might hear Hillbilly Hotrodder coming out of a club. Please keep your eyes open for current projects from Jeremy, Jack and Dylan. Until then thanks and see you soon. You can still catch Jack and Dylan with Brett Lucas at the Blue Goose Inn, Thursday nights in Saint Claire Shores."

Got this from their website.
"After the departure of John from the band, the three of us have decided to call it a day for Forge. We (Aaron, Greg, John & Steve) will be playing our final show at a venue and date to be announced. If you’ve ever been a Forge fan or have ever wondered if we’re any good, I suggest you make it out to the show, cause this is it."

Broadzilla to Open for The Misfits May 21st
|
 |
Broadzilla will be opening for
The Misfits on Friday May 21 at the Machine Shop in Flint. Their friends,
The Motorpsychos from Pittsburgh will be opening the show.
The Misfits are one of Punk's pioneers. The band formed in 1977 and has experienced many changes in the lineup since. In celebration of 25 years of Misfits (and 25 years of classic punk rock in general), founding member Jerry Only has recruited what is truly an all star line up of punk rock. Special guests performing within the Misfits line up for this historic current tour include punk pioneers
MARKY RAMONE of the world famous RAMONES and BLACK FLAG'S DEZ
CADENA. Marky and Dez will join The Misfits at the Machine Shop making this a show you will not want to miss.
The following night, the Motorpyschos will join Broadzilla at the Elbow Room in Ypsi, another one of their favorite places to play. Locals Strip Club will open the show.
"Da Broadz" have been busy. They just finished demo recordings for their next record with famed producer Mike E. Clark and are gearing up for dates in Pittsburgh, Chicago and Racine.
In February, Broadzilla had a full page spread in UK’s Guitar Magazine. The interview was done on their last U.K. Tour in November 2003 and finally hit the newsstands in Feb. 2004. They've been asked back to perform at England’s Bulldog Bash in August and will be planning another U.K. tour around those dates.

Show Review: Frogapalooza Friday, March 12th
|
Sure, we went on and on about Frogapalooza before and even during the event. Yeah, yeah, three days, twenty-something bands, yada, yada, yada. I bet you thought we were all done with that, didn't you? Well you're wrong! We can't help but continue to glorify the good nature, good music and good faith support of our participating bands. So I'm doing what I can to tap it all out for you before work, during lunch, after work and whenever my wife and daughter allow me five minutes to continue where I left off (bless their hearts). There's just not enough free hours in the week. Click "Read More" below for a review of Friday's performances.

Jackie Blue: Continuing Adventures of Detroit’s Funk & Roll Band (Part 3)
|
jackieblue writes:
Detroit, 5 January 2004- “What We’ve Learned So Far”
Many of us have wanted to start our own bands, possibly since birth. It’s one version of “the dream.” It’s an amazing experience—the excitement of finding new musicians through the underground websites, papers, referrals from the strangest places, and that all important “first rehearsal.” Then there’s the part that can suck: Dealing with people who represent the filthy business side of this enterprise. Fortunately, there are some gems out there that are able to combine the best aspects of music and business. These folks are in it for the right reason (the music), and best of all, they are willing to help. Click "Read More" below.
