GUITARS & GUNS - An Unholy Union
|
 |
by Keith Stover
"four dead in Ohio/four dead in Ohio,
four dead in Ohio, how many more?"
-lyrics from "Ohio" by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
Guitars and guns are strangely analogous, strings like triggers, notes like bullets, amplifiers the hot steel barrel of a loud report. But can the sounds issued forth by a guitar actually cause one human being to kill another?
There is little doubt that music is a catalyst for both action and change. A greeting card for all occasions, music can be a source of celebration, a call to arms, a gateway to nostalgia, or a soothing comforter.
The martial strains of Queen's 'We Will Rock You' spike our sporting events; Wagnerian marches herald the serious and studious business of the nightly news; the stately and poignant 'Candle In The Wind' or 'Gone Too Soon' accompany the tears at our funerals; 'We've Only Just Begun' underscores the joy of many wedding days. We use music like a medicine.
It is equally true that guns have shaped the history of nearly every modern civilization on earth. As agents of both expression and change, music and guns bear much in common.

Cancer Benefit January 27 at the Token Lounge in Westland.
|
acid_bath writes: It is your friendly neighborhood original band singer Geo! I am asking all of you lovely people for a favor....your time! I am asking on behalf of me and my family to attend an original
Bridge show on Thursday January 27th at the Token Lounge in Westland.
Here's the deal. I lost my mother to cancer New Years day 2003. It was a tragedy and I am still having a hard time coping! Well as the saying goes, "when it rains it pours!" My father has been diagnosed with terminal lung and colon cancer. Why play a benefit? Well when my mom passed her medical insurance went with her, so you know where I am going. All I am asking is for one night and
$10.00 ...... WRIF, Real Detroit Weekly, Bullfrog Bar & Grill, US12, The LIVESTRONG
Foundation, Guitar Center and many many others are putting their money where their mouths are.

Forge Farewell Show with Broadzilla
|
 |
Forge
will play their final show this Saturday, November 20, 2004 at Alvin's
located at 5756 Cass Avenue on WSU Campus. Doors are at 9pm for this all
ages show and Broadzilla
opens up the night.
Forge's website reports, "After the departure of John (John Dearry -
Guitar) from the band, the three of us (Aaron Greene - Vocals & Guitar, Greg Mastin - Drums, Steve Greene - Bass)
have decided to call it a day for Forge.
We’ve been playing for a good bunch of years and we’ve had a great run. Fans
and friends and people who know us are used to the idea of us soldiering on
through all setbacks and shake ups. This time it’s different. With absolutely
no disrespect to any former member of the band, in my mind, the 4 of us were the
definitive and final version of Forge. The idea of replacing any member at this
point and carrying on in the same direction is just unacceptable."
The band has released several albums over their nearly 10 years together
including, Bring On The Apocalype - 2003, Trials - 1999, Speed and Timing
7" - 1998 and Decloaking - 1996.
Members of Forge promise a new project, with a new direction in the near future.

The Sarah Colton Memorial Concert
|
Bob Colton's 4 month old daughter Sarah passed away Monday October 25th, 2004. Bob is the founder of the
MichiganMetal.com.
The Michigan Metal brotherhood is pulling together to offer support to Bob's family by holding a benefit this Saturday, Nov 11, 2004 at The Captian's Cove in Saginaw MI.
The benefit features live performances by many of Michigan's top metal acts all for a $5 dollar cover. For details including driving directions,
It is hard to find words at a time like this. Suffice it to say that we are offering our prayers and support to Bob and his family. I would encourage everyone to attend the event and leave a little something extra for the cause.
