Michiganbands.com would like to welcome ThreePeace (sic), a "skunk rock" band from Empire, MI (that's the first knuckle of the pinky finger on your Michigan mitten) whose musical goals are nothing less than achieving world peace by channeling The Divine via the unifying third beat of reggae music.
Having survived a near-fatal car accident, a career-ending back injury and subsequent major spinal surgery, and a divorce - Leftee and Big R decided their lives were spared for a reason. So they hired session drummer Martin Sheehan and purged their souls with their first release, "Empire of The Sun". Since then, ThreePeace has set out to create some positive vibes in the tradition of their heroes Daniel Lanois, Bob Marley and The Police with "For The Love of The Rastaman" (available at CD Baby & iTunes) and are planning their third release for 2008. Michiganbands.com would like to welcome acoustic artist Gene Perry to the cover bands/acoustic section of our band links. Gene is from St. Ignace and gigs in the straits area (Mackinac Island, Petosky, St. Ignace, Mackinaw City, etc..) where he's become "a comfortable old shoe" in several upper-lower venues over the last nine years.
Gene knows over 300 cover songs (mostly in the classic-rock genre) and performs original material on request as well. In 2003 Gene released "It's Time", an aptly-named solo effort he released in his fortieth year. You can hear samples at his website, along with samples of cover material he performs on a regular basis.
If you spent any time at the Wiki's Michigan Musicians site over the last couple of years, you'd already know that Gene's interest, involvement, enthusiasm and knowledge about music made for some stimulating threads over there. We certainly hope for and encourage the continuation of that tradition here in at MB. By the looks of things, he's already made a good start. - Mitch

MB Welcomes November Fire
|
 |
Michiganbands.com would like to welcome our latest band-link entry, November Fire. They're a three-piece out of Pickney, MI, with Matt Prokopp on guitar, Jerad Osterman on bass, and Cody Leverette on drums. They count old Metallica, Mercyful Fate, Arch Enemy, Children of Bodom and Venom as influences, so as you might expect, they can now be found in the Hardcore & Metal category in our band-links section. If you want to check out their sound, they currently have four songs available on their MySpace page that cover the gamut: "Toal Darkness" sounds like spastic punks on speedballs; "Burn Their King" opens with clean arpeggios that devolve into the battering charge of machines; but "Hell on Earth" and "Drifting To No Where" (sic) open old-school - with a guitar attack in two completely different styles (ah, reminds me of my misguided youth - oh, and my misspent adulthood). If you can't wait to get your fill of young spunk and you want to check them out live, you can find November Fire at the the Pinckney High School 5th Annual Battle Of The Bands this Friday, November 16th, 2007. MB welcomes ''Banned From Earth'' - Black Sabbath Tribute
|
Michiganbands.com would like to welcome our latest band-link submission, Banned From Earth - a Black Sabbath tribute band from Ferndale, MI. Not only do they have the distinction of being only the second tribute band on our site (I know, what an honor right? ), but they're the FIRST to actually post a useful message in our recently restored forums for which we are truly grateful. Keep up the good work guys. Oh and if you know any good cover venues for this band, drop them some ideas at this thread
Make sure to visit their MySpace page and re-live your drug-addled youth by listening to versions of "Snowblind", and "War Pigs" or even lesser known numbers such as "Behind The Wall Of Sleep". You can also check out some YouTube video of their recent performances. Click "read more" below for a song list and a link.

If You're Tired of The Same Old Tune - Change The Music
|
On Saturday, October 6th Jonah Nadir Omawale and other artists will be performing at Change: The Music - an event designed to highlight "the work of socially conscious artists who evoke strong, positive messages with their film, poetry, painting, dance, music, photography." The gathering promotes and supports grassroots activists, organizations and individuals who are working to make the world a better place. Change; The Music is a forum for people who believe that justice, social responsibility, political and economic equality, cultural diversity and self-determination should be the true foundation of a civilized society.
The funds from this particular event will benefit three area groups (MI Impeach, A-28 and World Can't Wait) that are working to keep pressure on Congress to hold the Bush administration accountable for its actions, according to a recent MySpace message from Nadir.

Egyptian-inspired progmetal rockers Dendura sign to KillZone Records in Austin
|
faith148 writes:
KillZone Records of Austin, TX, a notable indie label that specializes in metal music, signed local rockers Dendura, the female-fronted, Egyptian-inspired, progressive metal band with belly dancers (Got all that?), to a one-album deal on their label.
“Dendura is a perfect fit for KillZone because they stand out from the norm in terms of talent, ability and marketability,” said Stuart Banks, president of KillZone Records. “They present an unforgettable approach to progressive metal that builds and weaves dark themes with the allure of sensual mystery. Their music calls from a past that touches both the primal and inquisitive nature of our souls. They combine powerful, heavy music that drives like the shifting sands, carrying vocals like rising smoke and invoking the ghosts of a land and time long passed, but never forgotten."

Luke Sayers Says: They Don't Want Me

Not cool enough for the Detroit music scene? Can't get invited to all the right parties or get to play at all the right clubs? Having difficulty getting those well-insulated Detroit rags to write about you or even take you seriously? Well you're in good company bandheads. Inspired by yet another night of playing to the backs of a crowd of uninterested musicians and bar staff, acoustic rootsman Luke Sayers penned a funky little number called, "They Don't Want Me" which is currently available for a free download at his website. Royalty Hikes To Go Into Affect Monday: Your Immediate Action Required!
|
ATTENTION: Your immediate political action is required. On Wednesday, a federal court DENIED a plea for the delay of the massive hike in the royalty rates webcasters must pay record labels which will effectively put independent webcasters out of business. YOU need to contact your local congressional representatives TODAY and let them know that you're against this unfair rate that discriminates against the small webcasters who play YOUR music. Click "read more" below to read a letter from Pandora founder Tim Westergren. Links to past articles on MB about this very important subject are also included.
