Stageview: An amateur bassist languishes
Our resident bassist / columnist languishes for love in this poetic example of a musician falling for The Grass is Greener Syndrome. We've all been there; or if you're young, you'll be there soon enough. Chris writes, "My focus in music is no longer the blame / although it's a venue of infidels shame." Have you ever met someone at a gig that made you want to just chuck it all and start over? Just remember; wherever you go - there you are. - Mitch

Sean Barrett Online
Sean Barrett, one of Michigan's best and most versatile guitarists, has emerged with a new online presence at SeanBarrett.Net. As well as including the usual contact, calendar, press clippings and biographical information, the virtuoso/teacher has also thought to include a page for online guitar lessons.

"There will be plenty of mp3's ranging from traditional Classical and Flamenco repertoire, original nylon string compositions, and innovative progressive-rock instrumentals," reads his greeting. Barrett is also starting a mailing list that will include updates, performance schedules and 'tons of pratice tips.." Click "Read More" to find out more.

Featured Artists: Blade & Phly Hunniez
Artist - Blade & Phly Hunniez
Samples -
How We Do It / Ballers / Straight Dawgin' It wouldn't be right to highside our Feature Artist, Blade & Fly Hunniez, as their mugs' been up on our crib wall for over thirty. This is slickly produced hip-hop techno-dance music that, in keeping with tradition, leaves little to the imagination [parental guidance is suggestive(sic)]. Featuring three samples from their CD "Ballers," Blade & Phly Hunniez do for local hip-hop what skirts have been doing in local rock for years; drawin' punani to keep you scopin'. 'But ay yo trip - dese aint hoodrat, sack chasing boo-boo heads - dese is honey dip with grip who got head in D-town, dig? Dese is tasties who got their swerve on. Go on now, check 'em out.'

-Mitch

Random Reviews: Fathers of the Id
Artist - Fathers of the Id
Song - Skilled In the War

Like Living Colour during a nervous breakdown, Fathers of the Id (and I love that name) whip your basic drives into a frenetic anxiety attack and keep funkin' you till you break something. This 1998 release from the "Liberation by Hearing" CD can be put on your list of "great independent music you always meant to buy but wasted on video rentals instead." With any luck you can still find a copy out there in the bins.

Dick Wagner releases on MP3.com

Michigan rock icon Dick Wagner has released several of his tunes on mp3.com for download. Many of us veterans remember Dick from some of his early projects like the Bossmen, The Frost or Ursa Major. Others will know him through his guitar work and song writing for rock notables like Aerosmith, Hall & Oates, Air Supply, Burton Cummings, Lou Reed, Roberta Flack, and Steve Perry. Check your liner notes on Alice Cooper's "Welcome To My Nightmare" album and you'll see that Wagner wrote or collaborated on several tracks from that album including "Only Women Bleed" and the title track. In addition he did all of the guitar work.

Motor City Flashbacks: Frijid Pink - A History
by Terry Stafford - special contributor to Michiganbands.com

This article is my second in a series about the Rock n Roll scene from the late 60’s to the mid 70’s and how it relates to today’s bands and music. This time I'll be relating the story of Frijid Pink, a band I had the privelege of playing with in the early mid-seventies. Complete with a discography, a complete members list, cover photos and more.
