Bandheads In Repose II
Stricken with performance anxiety and writer's block, Editor Mitch Phillips decides to rediscover music on his own terms - again. In two short stories, "The Special Bubble" and "Panic and The Performance" he finds more than one excuse to pick up his instruments again.

When you feel obligated (even if the obligation is self-imposed) to report on local music and the CD's start piling up around you all you can think about is escape. This isn't a very healthy attitude...'

''Roll On'' Robb Roy
All that touring over the past year promoting their "Happy" CD must have gotten to Robb Roy who've worked those road-demons out in their brand new single "Roll On" (now available for download at RobbRoy.com ). This tune is no less than you'd expect from Michigan's rock standard-bearers; solid pop hooks with, this time, crossover appeal and a taste of sentimentality for the greatest country in the world. The brand new track features multi-DMA award winner Jill Jack on backing vocals and the passionate Pat Brennan laying down a soulful blanket of ivory-keyed organ. Robb Roy is currently writing and recording at "The Cleaners" in Dearborn ( it was literally a dry cleaning business before bassist John Cottos re-fashioned it into a down-time studio) and are rolling on towards a new full-length album.

The White Stripes Infect Local Online Editor
The White Stripes are spreading like a viral meme and I'm their latest host. I don't know what's come over me but I've been spreading this virus every time I open my mouth to talk about music, intentionally infecting my unsuspecting friends and acquaintences. It's sick, I know. I'm sure with a little bed rest and plenty of fluids I'll be right-as-rain in a few weeks, but for now I can only cough-up infectious accolades for the band that, in my fevered condition, I believe saved rock 'n roll.

Bandheads In Repose by Mitch Phillips
Join Mitch Phillips on a amateur photographic jaunt into P-town as he and his aging guitar player, Junior G travel to their old digs to see Funkt @ The Ventura Lounge, unwittingly chance upon a felony in the pursuit of good reggae music, pay Mode good money for a four-minute "Revolution" @ Griff's Grill and conspire to warm up Junior G's absent wife with twelve inches of hot-pink, vibrating latex.

' "Do you think if I get this for her she'll stay home next weekend?" he said wistfully..'

Introducing Mark Swanson
We've got a special treat for you "stringers" out there. Michiganbands.com has been blessed with our very first professional volunteer. Mark Swanson, a seasoned luthier from Grand Rapids has agreed to host our very own "Go-To-Guy Guitar Talk Forum!" Not only will Mark selflessly volunteer his time and extensive knowledge of the repair and construction of stringed instruments, but he'll also pen a monthly column right here on the front page with featured questions I'm sure we'll all find interesting. Read Mark's self-introduction in the "Gear Talk" forum / "Go-To Guitar Guy" and welcome him to the Michiganbands.com family.

Oh, and just to remind you , you may have to log-in a second time with the same user name and password. You should only have to do this once if you've never been to the Forums section.

- Mitch

Frijid Pink Resurfaces with ''Inner Heat''
Thirty-three years after the convergence of a hair-frosting fad and a refrigerator brand, the name "Frijid Pink" has once again re-emerged above the musical radar. In it's fifth incarnation since 1969, the newly reformed group has completed the first full-length Frijid Pink album to come out in twenty-eight years. "Inner Heat" features nine new tracks and a re-make of their very first single, "God Gave Me You," - a crowd-pleasing, arm-waving rock anthem that sold 15,000 copies locally in just two weeks...

COUNTRY SHINES AT THE DMA's
Yes Virginia, Country Music is alive and kicking in Metro Detroit, and we DO mean Kicking. Along with outstanding wins by groups such as the Wrenfields and Orbitsuns, the crowd was treated to boot-stomping musical performances by Janis Leigh and Tracy Leigh Bechard.
