PT writes "Submitted by PT Quinn
Once in a while a band comes along with a sound and showmanship that defines something different. Legendary Ann Arbor area successes like the
godfather of punk, Iggy Pop, bluesy rock band Brownsville Station, and psychedelic rock band SRC hit the national scene with a sound that helped define the myriad of the towns frenetic hippy head trips. But now, luminous ska party band Hullabaloo carry on their own spectacles of considerable kinetic energy-like they’ve been doing at several A2 venues and even a decent gig in the Cass Corridor’s Old Miami."

This is Crashing atoms' first release since forming in late 2001. The five song CD is self titled and contains such songs as "white trash girl", "Home", "mistreated",
"choices", and my favorite "super pot smoker". I like these guys sound, it's gritty, raw, and untainted by todays rock radio. If your expecting to hear another Creed or Stained type sound out of these guys you'll be sadly mistaken. It's hard to classify their sound. It's got a classic rock edge, a punk persona, funky bass lines, and at some points on the CD, they can be quite melodic. The singer isn't the best singer in the world, but there is a genuine quality to his voice. when he sings you believe and feel what he's saying. the guitars are strong, and the songs have definite hooks.
Take Iggy pop, Zeplin, Danzig, Nivana and the doors, mix in a blender on high an you got Crashing Atoms.

| Music Review: SBU's Soul Divide demo |
|
Though we are extremely late in reviewing this demo from Strength Beyond U (Their full-length release has been available for some time and they've already had a member shake-up since we recieved it), we pulled in some extra help to get the job done; Trailer Park Barbie's very own Erin Schultz has pitched-in to make sure Mitch doesn't "Simon-ize" another unsuspecting band innocently looking for positive feedback. Click "Read More" for Erin's backlash on Mitch and her review of Lincoln Park's SBU.

| Music Review: A Heap O' Livin' by The Beggars |
|
Thanks to the impeccable taste of Kilkenny's Nick Woods, I had the good fortune to witness a last-minute performance by Royal Oak garage rockers The Beggars at the Frank J Calcaterra American Legion Post 386 in Eastpointe. From an ad-hoc set-up on the dance floor, The Beggars up-staged Kilkenny at their own CD release party (man, the nerve!). The show was great, but their debut ep, entitled "A Heap 'O Livin", is even better - the best thing I've heard since Kilkenny's ep. | Music Review: Trailer Park Barbie's ''About Ready'' |

As Donald Rumsfeld has proven over and over again, you don't win many friends by assaulting people with your honest opinions (The truth? The Truth? You can't handle The truth!). Such is life for The Secretary of Defensiveness and a local music critic who finds it hard to love a band that reminds him of his dark and sticky past. With any luck, both of them will find some "Peace" and acceptance in the world.
