| 83rd Dream @ Wooden Nickel |
|
Kat's on the prowl again. Though it's recently been announced that The Wooden Nickel has gone country again, Kat caught what may have been one of the last hard rock shows at the Ypsi venue last Thursday night including performances from 83rd Dream (who've dominated the top spot in hottest band links, by fate or design) and Red Edison. Oh, and if you happen to meet Kat out there in the trenches, buy her a drink. She's working for the love of independent music. Click "Read More".

| His and Hers Live Reviews: Mixxle Plix @ The Token |

It doesn't happen often, but it does happen (just don't bet on it happening again any time soon). We have not one, but two reviews (his & hers) of the same show at The Token Lounge last Saturday. The Kat and Distortion Dave give their independent reviews of a M.A.M.A. Productions show featuring Miixxle Plixx. Here's a hint: Sounds like somebody might be looking for a new job soon. . . | Review: Bubby Jackson @ Breaktime Billiards |
|
Though he's actually from Maryland (you know, where you have to wear a flak jacket when you go to the gas station?), we adopted blues breaker Bubby Jackson as a Michigan musical refugee until things chill out down there. Actually, Marla Swartz, the brains, beauty and business behind Eldar Entertainment is letting Bubby crash on her couch for the time being. She even lent him some local talent to keep his chops up until he can one day return to "The Old Line State." "Read More" about Mitch's meeting Kat and their first-set reviews of Bubby Jackson at Breaktime Billiards in Novi.

| Review: Riot In Progress & The Machine Shop |
|
Mitch caved-in to his suburban guilt and made the 47 mile drive to Flint to see Riot In Progress open for national artists The Buzzhorn and Injected at The Machine Shop. Well, he nearly missed RIP, ignored the major-label artists and instead got drunk with Jesus and joined him in drooling over the barmaids in this mother of Hard Rock bars. Oh, and he has a theory about saving Flint from it's financial woes too. (Click the pic above for a larger image.)

| Grace Introduces The Klaver Project |
|
graceiam writes
When I first the boys in The Klaver Project they were our special impromtu guests at a show we did at Mt. Chalet, in Royal Oak. We performed there one Sunday a month for several months, to a house-full of very loving, and generous, familiar-faces. My drummer, Michael J. Kora, and my pianoman/arranger, Lucky Joe Neely, had 'another band' and they wanted us all to meet. The very first 'sit-in' was a magical moment, as Klaver's lead vocalist, Reggie Smith, and I found harmony a natural occurance between us.

I used to think Jill Jack was just a 'darling of the monied middle-class' who created safe pop music for mass consumption. Her popularity in certain circles piqued my aversion to trends and it was easier to discount her than to find out why she mattered. But knowing my presumptions were loaded, I went to P.B. Putters to find out for myself why "Jill Jack" is such a well-known alliteration in this state.

No gimmicks. No mad-hatters. No smoke and mirrors. Just pure, unabashed good music. This is 83rd Dream, a trio of musicians whose sole intent is to dig deep down into their collective creative souls and share their inspirations with whoever happens to enter their aura.
The group is comprised of Jason Seaman (lead vocals, lead guitar), Jim Irimescu (drums) and Scott Hanba (bass). And while their music has been described as a "music revival" (and rightly so), I say look closer and listen longer and you’ll discover it’s a whole lot more.
