Here's a useless addtion to our humble website. Look on the Main Menu top left and cllick "Take a Survey." Please, whatever you do DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS POLL. I mean it now. DON'T respond. We don't want to be responsible for your opinions, O.K? That'd mean we'd have to do something you want us to do - and probably for free - so don't be expecting much. (What good is a website if you can't mess with your readers?)
Enjoy. - Mitch

Artist - Steven K's Parlour Dogs
Song - Dancing For The Queen
"Dancing for the Queen" by Steven K's Parlour dogs takes me back to days when classically influenced rock was dominating the AOR charts in the early seventies. The opening reminds me of a royal arabesque or minuet (but in common time) then takes off in a Kansas-flavored theme, building to an open jam and then resolving just where it left off. Elaborately orchestrated and arranged, "Dancing for the Queen" is a rarity in contemporary pop in both it's length and complexity. I miss the days when listenig to a piece music was an experience in itself.

Band - Liquid Road
Song - Spirit of Contingency
Starting with a simple acoustic lick, paralleled by a feeble melody line and trailed by a wandering fuzz guitar, scattered drums and vocals that would make even the employees of Star Trax blush, Liquid Road is an example of what happens when someone brings home that first four-track after three weeks of guitar lessons. If you'd like a vicarious peek into the bedroom of every fourteen year-old boy with dreams of stardom, then Liquid Road is your case study of the embryonic stage of every musician. Although it's awful, it's an interesting yet painful listen. Liquid Road is fearless in their pursuit of lyric, melody, rhythm, meter and tone. One wonders which of these four will be discovered by the band first. As for "Spirit of Contingency", I'll entrust Webster's to give us a clue: Contingent - 2 : not logically necessary - 3 : intended for use in circumstances not completely foreseen. True that.

Artist - Objects of Wrath
Song - Woe
Objects of Wrath label themselves as hardcore / rapcore but their song "Woe" turned out to be much more interesting than the typical tommy-gun lyrical thrashing over heavy-metal guitars I expected. Stylistically, "Woe" departs from your average rapcore song, borrowing shades of what sounds like Lou Reed in his Velvet Underground daze. Featuring a fuzz-box guitar, back-room production quality and an anthem-like chorus, "Woe" is refreshingly low-brow.

Song - Waiting
Back in my day, you dragged a few of your friends along into the garage, pieced together as much second-hand and borrowed equipment you could lay your hands on and bashed-out your first song based on whatever spastic modal inventions happened to ooze from your inflated, guitar-weilding ego. Getting that first tune down was an event, and the tune would haunt you with delusions of grandeur and promises of your inevitable success. I just don't remember the music being so depressing. Remember people, keep your firearms locked away from your teenagers.

Song: It's Boxing Day"
Want to hear something weird and completely original? Listen to "It's Boxing Day" from Permanent Brain Freeze. This strange, stream of consciousness piece by the self-described ' 4-Track Rock & Roll guys in suburban Detroit' is decidedly low-quality, low-budget and low-brow - but it'll probably bring at least a cheezy smirk to your face. My daughter Emily thinks the back-up vocalist sounds like "Larry The Cucumber" from Veggie Tales. She's dead-on. But what it has to do with boxing is anybody's guess.

Artist: Celestial Harp & Flute
Song: And So On
I feel like a naked, dancing wood-nymph after listening to "Celestial Harp & Flute," the instrumental duo of DL Turner (harpist and composer) and Nancy Ruth Holtzman (flautist). Although the sound sample's only forty seconds long, for a half-minute there I was prancing through a field of daisies and pondering the transcendent beauty of God's creation.
Specializing in weddings and formal occassions, "Celestial Harp & Flute" can make your special occassion, as one happy customer put it, 'sound like the angels (are) descending from heaven.' I wish I'd had 'em at my wedding, but I'm not sure Elvis would have appreciated it.

Band: Elads Guitar Army
Song: Drop The Gloves
Manic, fast and furious, ELADS GUITAR ARMY cuts through the bullshit and defies you to "Drop The Gloves" in this first track from their 1999 release, "Rock & Roll Circus." Citing influences from the MC5, The Stooges, The Rolling Stones and The Clash, the Guitar Army describe themselves as, 'Fast powerful rock & roll influenced from the late 60s and early punk. Big bad loud and fast!.' This unadulterated guitar bop is perfect "wake-up, turn-up and warn-the-world -you're-coming" music. Their 2001 release, "Rattlesnake Tongue" is reported to be bigger, badder, louder and faster.
