normwick writes Your show at the Scoreboard was one of the best shows I've ever had the pleasure of witnessing. And as always it is truly an honor to get up and sing with you guys. I've known you guys so long now and to see how far you have come with your music is truly inspiring to me. Not only am I lucky enough to know you guys as musicians but as friends as well. And thanks once again for proving why they call it DETROIT ROCK CITY!!! Shawn

Jrtommyg writes Half The Battle (think old-school Green Day) performing January 18th at Maggies in Jackson. They're awesome and have a lot of talent. To find out more about them go to HalfTheBattle.net. They are a hardcore melodic Punk group from Detroit and have a 6 song ep out now. You can also go get free music at www.mp3.com/halfthebattle. Go to it , you wont regret it at all!! If you come to the show it is on M-60 off of Parsons Rd, in Jackson

| Venue Review: The Magic Bag |

WWghost writes Due to the demand for more user submissions by Mitch, here is my first contribution. Taking a break from prose and poetry to review a popular local venue for live music. The first target for my opinionated tangent is Ferndale's finest music venue, The Magic Bag. After experiencing several shows at this choice establishment, I am offering my humble opinion to you all, with which you are free to agree or disagree. Click "Read More" for wwghosts review.

One man's "sell-out" is another man's treasure. Why does no one label it a "sell-out" when three or four of our very most talented original Detroit acts agree to sit around in some over-priced, superficial pick-up joint in BFE County for $3-a head & one half-hour set in between the guys in bunny costumes & the ozzy-wanna-be's? Just as every artist/warrior marches to a slightly different drummer, so every performer has a different price. Artists and whores have long been compared analyzed, to the same bitter-sweet conclusion . . .

graceiam writes Ever wonder, like me, exactly WHAT a certain word MEANS?
Take 'LOUNGE' (as in, 'Lounge Music' or Lounge Lizard')....best definition I could find:
"to spend time in idleness"...."in a relaxed way"
...that's exactly what my philosophy has always been with regards to the making and performing of music....'nice & easy'....it should not be a 'chore'....it's MUSIC, afterall, and music is for our soulish enjoyment....it is a form of release, similar to coitus...of the creative energies...after which, you usually want to RELAX!

On a Wednesday, June 11, 2002, I decided to join some friends for a Birthday "lets just party" celebration. Of course we went to our local scene, better known as "THE MACHINE SHOP" located in Flint, Michigan. The first band to play was KOYL. They opened with such energy, I was totally blown away by their performance. They sparkled and shined with a overpowering effect. If you get a chance to see them perform, do not pass up the opportunity! Just my opinion but I think many would agree also. Hey Jason; get ahold of me!
- Melinda
(Editor's Note: Koyl will be performing at the "Jobbie Nooner" at Gull Island on Friday June 21st and
at the Hayloft on Saturday June 22 with Critical Bill, Rolling Machine, and Atlas 7. )

Band: Jupiter Avenue
Song: Groovy Things
Jupiter Avenue caught my attention when they submitted a gig on the calendar for a town I'd never even head of before. I've always been curious about the sounds Yoopers make when nobody else is listening. Now we trolls (folks liviing under the Mackinaw bridge) can enjoy a cross-cultural exchange via Michiganbands.com and listen to "Groovy Things" an unusual mix of mechanical hardcore, progressive punk, and psychotic sampling - all wrapped in a first-class blanket of flash.

Artist: reagan?
Song: Free
Like a cool glass of fresh spring water, reagan? serves up a refreshing innocence that quenches my thirst for organic melody without additives or preservatives. In the song "Free" from their debut CD "All the way from Allen Street," the delivery and performances seem so natural and effortless as to suggest singer Sarah Lynn Brosch is singing to herself in the privacy of her own bedroom as the music surrounds her like a cozy blanket, the implied soundtrack to her wistful life. Not since the advent of Edie Brickell and The New Bohemians has pop music seemed so Girl-Next-Door and Naturally Sweet.

Okay. So you need a place to vent your frustrations about the music scene because the Detroitmusic.com board just isn't enough for you. Well, this is the place to take it out on our editor.
You can spout off about anything you want here; stories, bands, venues, whatever. But, in keeping with general newspaper policies, you will not be allowed to do it anonymously. You must first become a Michiganbands.com member. As with all other submissions, anonymous letters to the editor will be discarded - no matter how compelling.
