 Check Out Detroit Rock Review

If you've been living in a cave lately, at least as far as the virtual local music scene is concerned (a cave in itself for sure - one I've been meaning to escape for over a decade), you may have missed one of, if not THE the most active local music review websites happening out there. I'm speaking, of course, of DR2 or Detroit Rock Review. They've  been churning out CD reviews, live reviews and local music news items over the past several months. There's ton of pictures of live shows too.  If you have any interest in local music and have a MySpace account or a DetroitCity.com account, chances are you've already read at least one of their reviews. So go check 'em out if you haven't already and give 'em their props.  www.detroitrockreview.com

Radiocraft CATCH YOUR DEATH CD Release Party

During my teen years a friend's mother used to tell me stories about hanging out with The Rolling Stones in London night clubs during the early sixties.  She even had a picture of her and Brian Jones sharing a pint at the bar.  To a teenage music freak in the late 1970's, that was almost more my brain could handle. But in the early 60's London club scene it was a typical night. No big deal. They couldn't have known at the time that the drunken misfits on stage would one day be larger-than-life rock icons worthy of royalty status here in America.

In the "information age" we may never put our rock stars on such a high pedestal again, but that doesn't change the fact that a London club band went on to create timeless rock classics that would change our lives. My point? When you go out to see a local band that you really dig, it's like London all over again. Who cares if the rest of the world understands what you already know in your gut? When the music moves you, there's nothing quite like being there, up close and personal.

That's the way I've felt about Radiocraft since the first heard them back in aught-one.  The release party for IN STEREO is one of my most treasured memories of local music.  Pure Magic.  Then "Red" came along; no sophomore slump there, the band hit it even harder the second time around and it's just as fresh today as it was when it came out.

Now you have another opportunity to see local music history in the making. Radiocraft's CATCH YOUR DEATH CD RELEASE PARTY w/Zen, Ray Street Park & Primortal will be taking place at The Token Lounge on November 21st. That's the night before Thanksgiving, which is appropriate I think; It's the perfect opportunity to give thanks for having such great local music available to us.  - Mitch

 Forums Are Coming Back
mitch writes It's been years now since we closed the forums - which was probably not the smartest thing to do in the age of "social networking". But they sucked a lot of time and energy due to abuse, spammers, malcontents, etc.. We didn't have the time to babysit bandheads to make sure they treated one another with courtesy and respect. It's that lack of trust and solidarity, I'm convinced, that has led our country, and this website, to the sorry state they are in today. But there are a few true believers out there who, despite their better interest, continue to fight the good fight for local music. One of those people, Jeff (Wiki) of MichiganMusicians.com, has volunteered to do what we refuse to do - moderate the forums. There's a few bugs to work out yet, but watch for their return. - Mitch

LEGEND is searching for a Keyboard Player/ Bass or Monster Bass Player with vocs
johnnylightnin writes The keyboardist in LEGEND is leaving the band because of his day work commitments. He sings a few fronts per set, backups, & has a great left hand to play bass with, Do you? Or, are you a monster bass player on a 4 string or excellent on a 5 or 6 string that also sings? Johnny Lightnin' does a lot of the singing but needs you to shine as the other lead singer. LEGEND plays out at both Modern Country and Classic Rock/Rock venues and is working almost every weekend. The play dates have been mostly in Livingston, Washtenaw, and Oakland counties, but LEGEND is always willing to branch out. The pay is quite decent as LEGEND is long known as a power trio. Example: Stevie Ray Vaughan or ZZ Top in the Rock market or as Blackhawk in Country music. Click "read more" below for a link and contact information.
