New Flipping the Pig songs on website!
fthep writes:
Flipping the Pig's new collection of free MP3s, titled "Giving it to Myself," is now available at www.flippingthepig.com. Fake instruments galore (horns, strings, assorted other sounds, more horns) as well as several real ones (acoustic/electric guitars, etc.) abound on the 11 songs offered. The sound? Think Harry Nilsson after listening to a lot of late 80s/early 90s college music. Ranging from an uncomfortably-revealing oddball acoustic waltz to a sleepily crooned dirge to a bouncy piano-based pop song with decidedly peeved lyrics, the new songs are sure to please somebody. Maybe.

60 Second Crush Lands Slot on Zippo Hot Tour at St. Andrew's Hall on June 12
LuckyMonkey writes:
As part of the Zippo Hot Tour contest, Detroit rock band 60 Second Crush will be opening for buzz heavy national act Abloom at St. Andrew’s Hall on Saturday, June 12. So far, over 800 bands from eight cities entered the music competition, vying for the title of “Zippo’s Hot Band”. Heavy crunching 60 Second Crush and local band Autoreverse both landed coveted opening slots in Detroit as part of the contest process.

From approximately June 15 through August 15, 2004, Zippo will be posting the entry materials for each qualifying band on their website www.zippohottour.com for public viewing, streaming, downloading and voting. Visitors to the website will vote for "hot" bands in each market, based on their preferences/taste in music and the voting rules posted on the website.

Abloom features former members of Soulfly, Snot and OnesideZero and are executive produced by Shavo Odadjian of System of a Down. The Los Angeles based quintet are currently the focus of major national industry buzz, and according to LA Weekly, ‘poised to coax hard rock from its corporate slumber.”

The timeless sounds of Colic and the hard-hitting Snatchblock will also make this a memorable night. The night will also feature Detroit's biggest secret of all-stars in the debut of a band named Core Effect.

Midget Town's new disc "Contents Under Pressure" has been under wraps and is ready to be unleashed at the show. It was recorded and produced by Kevin Williams (Twin Pigs, Mercury Trigger) at Midwest Studios in Rochester last month. Kevin has become Detroit's own Rick Rubin in recent years. Cursed Eternity names new guitarist
XevKai writes:
18 year old Matt Trczinski from Howell will be playing lead guitars in the melodic metal band Cursed Eternity.

Their website reports; "It was a hard decision. There were about 10 total guitarists who came out, or responded to the Lead guitarists adds. Everyone who had the balls to come out and tryout gave it their all. Matt was chosen because we felt that he would fit in best with the band. He's a phenomenal guitar player, and he's only 18!" Stated guitarist/vocalist Joe Grode. Matt will start playing live with CE right away. He's scheduled to play at the IROCK show next week, so be sure and come out to welcome him to the CE family!"

-Matt came from the Livingston Underground band Satyrasis
