Has Commercial Radio Finally Gone Limp?
The ad to the left appeared in the October issue of Blender magazine on page 52. It depicts a huge Viagra™ pill as a pictograph representing the various percentages of artists who are likely to get your parents hot (The Righteous Brothers beating out The Foo Fighters, Audioslave and The Killers by a landslide). The text at the bottom of the ad reads: 'Tons of Artists. Zillions of Songs. And oh yeah, it's free. Radio. Brought to you by America's 13,000 local radio stations that play artists like these every day.' This ad begs the question: In an era of "pod-safe" independent music, has commercial radio finally gone limp?

Note: according to Stay Free Daily blog, Stuart Elliott's "In Advertising" column (NYTimes.com Tuesday, June 7, 2005) reported that the ad campaign was paid for by The National Association of Broadcasters ($28 million!) and created by DeVito/Verdi from New York.

Kids On Stage For A Better World Perform Robb Roy Song
Back in April, Graham Strachan of Robb Roy received a letter from Laurie Bartilson, Director of Kids on Stage for a Better World, a song and dance troupe in L.A. who perform socially conscious material. She wanted to know if her troupe could perform the Robb Roy song, "Vitamin R", a song about the dangers of drug Ritalin, and if so, could the band provide them with the musical tracks sans vocals?  Freak of the Week: Lord Blasto
With Halloween coming up in just a few weeks, I figured this random find was just too twisted to keep to myself. I don't know if Lord Blasto is a magician, a musician, Queen Bee's photog or just another freaky goth model from some dark corner in Detroit, but whatever he is - it works.
There's not much in the way of music here, but the one download that is avaialable is pretty freakin' cool. Click "read more" below to check it out.
