Michiganbands.com would like to welcome acoustic artist Gene Perry to the cover bands/acoustic section of our band links. Gene is from St. Ignace and gigs in the straits area (Mackinac Island, Petosky, St. Ignace, Mackinaw City, etc..) where he's become "a comfortable old shoe" in several upper-lower venues over the last nine years.
Gene knows over 300 cover songs (mostly in the classic-rock genre) and performs original material on request as well. In 2003 Gene released "It's Time", an aptly-named solo effort he released in his fortieth year. You can hear samples at his website, along with samples of cover material he performs on a regular basis.
If you spent any time at the Wiki's Michigan Musicians site over the last couple of years, you'd already know that Gene's interest, involvement, enthusiasm and knowledge about music made for some stimulating threads over there. We certainly hope for and encourage the continuation of that tradition here in at MB. By the looks of things, he's already made a good start. - Mitch

Radiocraft CATCH YOUR DEATH CD Release Party
During my teen years a friend's mother used to tell me stories about hanging out with The Rolling Stones in London night clubs during the early sixties. She even had a picture of her and Brian Jones sharing a pint at the bar. To a teenage music freak in the late 1970's, that was almost more my brain could handle. But in the early 60's London club scene it was a typical night. No big deal. They couldn't have known at the time that the drunken misfits on stage would one day be larger-than-life rock icons worthy of royalty status here in America.
In the "information age" we may never put our rock stars on such a high pedestal again, but that doesn't change the fact that a London club band went on to create timeless rock classics that would change our lives. My point? When you go out to see a local band that you really dig, it's like London all over again. Who cares if the rest of the world understands what you already know in your gut? When the music moves you, there's nothing quite like being there, up close and personal.
That's the way I've felt about Radiocraft since the first heard them back in aught-one. The release party for IN STEREO is one of my most treasured memories of local music. Pure Magic. Then "Red" came along; no sophomore slump there, the band hit it even harder the second time around and it's just as fresh today as it was when it came out.
Now you have another opportunity to see local music history in the making. Radiocraft's CATCH YOUR DEATH CD RELEASE PARTY w/Zen, Ray Street Park & Primortal will be taking place at The Token Lounge on November 21st. That's the night before Thanksgiving, which is appropriate I think; It's the perfect opportunity to give thanks for having such great local music available to us. - Mitch

MB Welcomes November Fire
Michiganbands.com would like to welcome our latest band-link entry, November Fire. They're a three-piece out of Pickney, MI, with Matt Prokopp on guitar, Jerad Osterman on bass, and Cody Leverette on drums. They count old Metallica, Mercyful Fate, Arch Enemy, Children of Bodom and Venom as influences, so as you might expect, they can now be found in the Hardcore & Metal category in our band-links section. If you want to check out their sound, they currently have four songs available on their MySpace page that cover the gamut: "Toal Darkness" sounds like spastic punks on speedballs; "Burn Their King" opens with clean arpeggios that devolve into the battering charge of machines; but "Hell on Earth" and "Drifting To No Where" (sic) open old-school - with a guitar attack in two completely different styles (ah, reminds me of my misguided youth - oh, and my misspent adulthood). If you can't wait to get your fill of young spunk and you want to check them out live, you can find November Fire at the the Pinckney High School 5th Annual Battle Of The Bands this Friday, November 16th, 2007. Bogdon Box on Bass Player TV
Chris Badynee's Bogdon Box Bass has been making its rounds and this time has landed on the virtual doorstep of Bass Player TV, the net extension of Bass Player Magazine which recently featured the Bogdon in its "New Gear" section. Managing editor Greg Olwell takes the Bogdon Box out for a slow shufffle just to see if this cardboard upright really has the goods. There are three videos available on the site including "Construction" in which he walks you through the steps necessary to create the cardboard bass; "Materials" which points out the various features of the bass, including its "weed-wacker line" strings and double-sided taped inducer pick-up, and "Demo", where you get to see the bass in action.

New Free Online Album from Flipping The Pig
fthep writes:
The new Flipping The Pig album, You Get The Idea, was released online for free download on November 8, 2007 at www.flippingthepig.com. As usual, the music is a grab bag of power pop, brooding acoustic numbers, oddities, wry humor, reflection, folk, art-rock leanings, and whatever else this one-man-band feels like creating. This time around the power pop side came to the forefront a bit more, though.
"While Flipping the Pig might only consist of Jeff Mansk and his eclectic and oft funny side, there are times when you feel almost reassured that there's more than one person behind this madness; perhaps he's suffering from a mental disorder..." - Smother.net
