 MB Welcomes Mark Farner
Well, this is a very special day indeed. Michiganbands.com would like to give a extra-special welcome to our latest band links submission, Mark Farner  (original artists/modern classic rock).  For those of you who may be too young to remember or not quite versed in the annals of classic rock history, Mark Farner was the lead singer/songwriter and guitarist for a Grand Funk Railroad - one of the bands who helped put Michigan on the map with songs like "I'm Your Captain", "American Band", "Foot Stompin' Music" and turned classic covers into mega-hits like "Some Kind Of Wonderful" & "The Loco-Motion".  Mark went on to write more hits on his own and created The Mark Farner Group which is still pumping out great music and touring to this day. I caught Mark Farner's performance at Mt. Clemen's Stars & Stripes festival last June and, just like Iggy, you'd never know that thirty years had passed - amazing performance! In 2006, Mark Farner - The Rock Patriot released "For The People", the first full-length record he'd released in more than a decade and proof that he's just as fresh and topical as ever.  - Mitch

 MB Welcomes Gun Shot Amy
Gun Shot AmyMichiganbands.com would like to welcome Gun Shot Amy, as self-described punk/indie/screamo band from Owosso, Mi.  This young trio is comprised of Sean Woodsworth on guitar/vocals and screams,  Jordan Sovis on percussion, piano and screams and Jordan Erwin on bass  - who apparently doesn't scream.  Always on the prowl for that next gig, the band has included an easy to use e-mail form on their myspage page for anyone in need of a supporting act on their bill.  In the meantime, Gun Shot Amy will be participating in the Owosso Battle of The Bands to take place on January 18th.  We wish them luck and welcome them to MB.  Oh yeah, you can also find Gun Shot Amy in our Original Artists/ power pop & punk category in the "Band Links" section.

DATERAID set to benefit Michigan artist
tomkat writes 'DATERAID' is a benefit concert and silent art auction that will take place Jan. 20th 2008, at The Redrum in Kalamazoo starting at 1:00PM.

DaterAid08 The concert was established for local artist Chris Neale, who grew up in the Paw Paw/Kalamazoo area, to raise money for hospital bills. The name DATERAID arises from Chris' nickname growing up where he was called 'Dater', because before changing his last name to Neale, it was Date.  Chris, who lives in Texas, was diagnosed with liposarcoma, a cancer of the soft tissue. Doctors removed a 10-pound tumor from his abdomen that had caused a great deal of pain.  Following his week-long hospital stay he had amassed around $50,000 in hospital bills, and he did not have health insurance.

Five New Sites To Help You Take Over The World in 2008
Cortney Harding has posted a story for Billboard (Reuters wire) about five websites that are most likely to make a significant impact on how indie bands do business in 2008.  New and inventive models are emerging that will help you monetize your music, find new avenues for licensing, make inter-continental collaborations more practical, find fans you never knew you had, and compete for cash and prizes.  The best part?  They're all free. -  Mitch
