| Music Review: Making Me Wonder by Lime Regal |
|
Though I never received the disc I was told to expect from Lime Regal, I was so anxious to get my ears on it I ponied up the cash and downloaded it from iTunes. Now that the Lansing-incubated, Detroit-forged band is receiving attention from all quarters, they probably don't need the support of little old MB. But unpopularity has never stopped me from sharing my opinions about the local music I really dig. Lime Regal's six-song ep "Making Me Wonder" is definitely now on that list.

Michiganbands.com would like to welcome ThreePeace (sic), a "skunk rock" band from Empire, MI (that's the first knuckle of the pinky finger on your Michigan mitten) whose musical goals are nothing less than achieving world peace by channeling The Divine via the unifying third beat of reggae music.
Having survived a near-fatal car accident, a career-ending back injury and subsequent major spinal surgery, and a divorce - Leftee and Big R decided their lives were spared for a reason. So they hired session drummer Martin Sheehan and purged their souls with their first release, "Empire of The Sun". Since then, ThreePeace has set out to create some positive vibes in the tradition of their heroes Daniel Lanois, Bob Marley and The Police with "For The Love of The Rastaman" (available at CD Baby & iTunes) and are planning their third release for 2008. | 5th Annual ''Home For The Holidaze'' Benefits Area Homeless |
|
The holidays are now upon us and it is time once again for the fifth annual showcase "Home for the Holidaze" - a singer-songwriter music showcase and benefit for area homeless shelters. The event brings together local singer-songwriters and former Detroit musicians who are home for the holiday season. It is a chance for them to perform for a good cause as the proceeds from the event will go towards food donations to area homeless shelters. We also accept pet food donations to be distributed to the local animal shelters, Almost Home (almosthomeanimalrescue.org) and Cinder Fund (cinderfund.org).
This year we are teaming up with Charity Music (charitymusic.com) a local non-profit organization that provides musical instruments to less fortunate children in the community to help foster their musical interests and talents. We will be accepting donations of used musical instruments to distribute to these kids. Any donated used instruments from school band instruments to guitars can be put to good use. Michiganbands.com would like to welcome acoustic artist Gene Perry to the cover bands/acoustic section of our band links. Gene is from St. Ignace and gigs in the straits area (Mackinac Island, Petosky, St. Ignace, Mackinaw City, etc..) where he's become "a comfortable old shoe" in several upper-lower venues over the last nine years.
Gene knows over 300 cover songs (mostly in the classic-rock genre) and performs original material on request as well. In 2003 Gene released "It's Time", an aptly-named solo effort he released in his fortieth year. You can hear samples at his website, along with samples of cover material he performs on a regular basis.
If you spent any time at the Wiki's Michigan Musicians site over the last couple of years, you'd already know that Gene's interest, involvement, enthusiasm and knowledge about music made for some stimulating threads over there. We certainly hope for and encourage the continuation of that tradition here in at MB. By the looks of things, he's already made a good start. - Mitch
