Flipping The Pig New Free Album: My Heroic Cadences
fthep writes Oddly normal?  Normally odd?  Though stylistically pulling from many different sources (pop, new wave, folk, jazz, electronic, rock, showtunes, etc.), there's a lyrical and emotional cohesiveness that prevails on the mood of one-man-band Flipping The Pig's melodic new album My Heroic Cadences.  The new record retains the chaotic spirit of past releases, but this time with no electric guitars and no bass. It wasn't a conscious decision; they simply weren't plugged in. The album was written, recorded, and released in February, on the heels of last November's You Get The Idea. Its 10 tracks exhibit a personal late night feel: overtones of discomfort, guilt, and paranoia; undertones of hope, humor, and the coolness of paying ten bucks for Eddie Deezen's autograph.  There's the throaty choir and wavering vocals on 'The Ripple', the moody solo piano of 'The Conversationalist', the groggy 'Periphery', the mid-tempo new wave pop of 'Let A Moment Pass', the acoustic slightly unsettling tone of the aptly-titled 'The Creeper,' as well as 'Preset' -- his very first drug-addled dance song (he channeled his inner Bronski Beat and he's very proud).

Euphoric Haze CD Release Party @ Token w/Flophouse, Steppdogg
Back when my wife worked for an industrial tool supplier in Redford she noticed that one of her co-workers often sang along to the radio.  Not just musical mumbling mind you, but belting out the song better than the vocals coming out of the speakers.  She only knew him as Howard, one of the few people she could tolerate at that job. As it turned out, that co-worker was Howard Whitaker - the lead singer for the alternative rock band Euphoric Haze.  She brought home his CD, Euphoric Haze's "Volume One", and we were both pretty impressed.  It was like a mix of Seattle grunge and power pop, just like their link description here on MB said.  The sound was tight and the songs were good.
Four years later, Euphoric Haze has finally released their long-awaited follow-up, "Losing Sleep"  on Hell City Records.  To celebrate, they'll be throwing their CD release party at The Token Lounge this Saturday, March 1st.  It's not only ther perfect opportunity to see Euphoric Haze, but also Flophouse, Steppdogg (former Nasties/Face drummer Steve Firneno's new band) and The Black List.  It's going to be a great night of rock and we hope to see you there. - MItch

 Michiganbands.com Welcomes Quiverbone and FlintDrive
In honor of all things strange and mettalic, Michiganbands.com would like to welcome our latest band-link submissions in the original artists / hard rock category, Quiverbone and FlintDrive.  Quiverbone hopes to revitalize the hard rock scene in their area by "exemplify(ing) the essence of live performance" and claim their purpose is to deliver a high-energy show every time.  And how do they do that? "We rehearse as if we have an audience of a thousand," Chip says in his link description.  You can find selections from Quiverbone's live EP, "To Hell WIth That Smell" on their MySpace page. Click "read more" below for links.

From the Terrible Ted School of Hard Rock (complete with camouflage and zebra-striped jackets) comes FlintDrive, regulars of The Machine Shop who have opened shows for such bands as Jackyl, Silvertide and Tantric - and have the posters to prove it.  The band has been together for five years in various incarnations and have just added vocalist Ron Russell and bassist John Dashner to the line-up. They have two songs on their MySpace page, "Division In Time" and "Changes" and will be appearing live at The Corunna St. Bar on March 8th for anyone who wants to hear them live.  To hear the studio versions, click "read more" below for all the links.

Charlie Naebeck: Download My New Record Now FREE
superpenguin79 writes

Hi everyone,

hope winter is treating you well here in MI... its bitter cold of course, but that doesn't stop music. I wanted to share that I have released a new 15 song LP called "How Can I Be Afraid". You can download it FREE on my site: http://www.charlienaebeck.com.  This is my 5th release to date and honestly I did the record to kill time here and there over the past year and a half.   I didn't stick with one style in particular so there are acoustic instrumentals, jazz, industrial, and rock tracks on this one. Enjoy and hope everyone is well. peace

Charlie

 Michiganbands.com Welcomes UV Hippo
Somewhere way down on the Muskegon River in the heart of Big Rapids country (below the ring finger on the "heartline" of your Michigan hand) lives a rare creature known as the Ultraviolet Hippopotomus.  Besides wallowing in the muck to stay cool (don't we all from time to time) this radiating river cow has been known to make unusual sounds that can only be appreciated by dedicated music freaks - particularly those near Ferris State University.  Some say it sounds like rock. Some say it's more like jazz.  Still others report  electronica, reggae and even bluegrass emanating from the massive orifice of this unpredictable menace.  The only way to know for sure is to check them out for yourself in the Original Artists / Jam  category of our band links section.  Or you can just click "read more" below and we'll give you all the links you need. - Mitch
