Royalty Hikes To Go Into Affect Monday: Your Immediate Action Required!
ATTENTION: Your immediate political action is required. On Wednesday, a federal court DENIED a plea for the delay of the massive hike in the royalty rates webcasters must pay record labels which will effectively put independent webcasters out of business. YOU need to contact your local congressional representatives TODAY and let them know that you're against this unfair rate that discriminates against the small webcasters who play YOUR music. Click "read more" below to read a letter from Pandora founder Tim Westergren. Links to past articles on MB about this very important subject are also included.

 Survey Says: Bring Us Home
Though few of you commented on our survey, "Have The Wars In Iraq / Afghanistan Affected Your Music?", I'd like to bring to your attention somebody who has not only been directly affected by those wars, but who wrote a song for his son who is now serving his fourth combat tour in Iraq. He is retired military veteran David Carver and the name of his song is, "Bring Us Home".

 New MichiganMusicians.com website Launched!
wiki writes So we finally opened our doors late last night to our brand new website for Michigan musicians/bands & fans of local music. I have decided to use xoops to power MM this time as it is my favorite open source cms out there. It has given me the possibility to add some new modules to the site that we have lacked in the past such as an image gallery were our members can upload photos, an inline forum to replace our former remotely hosted proboards forum, a callsifieds module, a module for members to submit and watch YouTube videos of local bands, blogs, reviews, an events module for submitting shows, an online store for artists/bands to sell their music on our site, and best of all a module that allows artists/bands to create a band page.

The Ghost That Walks Reverses Time, Bears Fruit
Inspired by the amount of time he was wasting on the internet, electronic underground musician Paul "Ghostwalker" Bishop has committed himself to a once-a-week composition series that is intended to last an entire year.

"After wasting so much time in the last two years, not to mention the last ten. I decided to do something about it and pull my finger out of my arse. One track a week it is then," Bishop wrote in his DetroitCity.com blog.

He began his productivity turnaround simply by flipping his daily routine into reverse. Instead of working on music after looking at websites, articles, myspace, facebook, etc.. he made it the first thing he did in his day. The result is five compositions in five weeks so far, with 48 more to go (apparently including two weeks of well-earned vacation). Click "read more" below.

Survey Says: Should Restaurants and Bars Ban Smoking?
In a recent e-mail, singer/songwriter Chris McCall made a plea to her fans. She writes:
Please consider writing to your representative in support of House Bill 4163 which proposes smoke free environments for all work sites, including bars and restaurants which are now exempt. Even if you smoke, I ask you to support this effort as so many of us who work in these environments face health problems and lost wages as a direct result of second-hand smoke. Although similar laws have passed in many countries and states, it has been said that it will never pass in Michigan. Please help. You can find out more at www.makemiairsmokefree.org My deepest thanks.

This prompts our latest MB Survey: Should smoking be banned in Michigan bars and restaurants? Vote in the right column or click here. As always, feel free to comment at the voting booth.

 MBlurbs: July 4, 2007
Welcome to another edition of MBlurbs. This time we catch up with Radiocraft at the Stars & Stripes fest in Mt. Clemens, just in time for tear-down. Ronnie gives me the 311 on Joey Bowen's return from the left-coast and the General Clusterfunk reunion. Jay informs us that it's a Blind Shame that band doesn't exist anymore, but three-fifths of a broken-ass band make for a Bulletproof Moxie.

 Happy Independence Day Bandheads
Happy Independence Day Michigan Bandheads! Today we celebrate not just our break with Great Britain some 231 years ago, but our independence from all forms of tyranny and oppression, including those imposed on us and all peace-loving people by violent political ideologies and religions. We'll declare our independence from the shortsightedness of the FCC for not insisting on more local programming and local music on the public airwaves. We'll declare our independence from the global economy which continues to export our jobs and drag our standard of living into the toilet. We'll celebrate the independent spirit that is manifest through local independent music. We'll affirm a new dedication to localism, starting with the music performances we attend. With that said, check our calendar for an event near you or, better yet, submit one of your own. - Mitch

Welcome to the second editon of MBlurbs, in which we glean from your e-mails the local music news of the day. In this edition, singer/songwriter Graham Strachan has been busy making sense of his life without Robb Roy. Classical-Rock keyboardist and local celeb-brother Michael Quatro hired an "Animal" to spice-up his riverboat shows and Muskegon's Four Finger Five have found greener pastures up in the northwest.
Remember, If you want your news included in future editions of MBlurbs, put us on your e-mail list.
