One reason why so few ever make it in the music business is that the supply of good quality independent music so out-runs demand that, despite it being good, nobody needs more music in their lives. There's only so many hours in the day and people generally get their casual musical needs met via radio; when you deduct hours asleep, hours at work, hours making dinner, going to school, using the bathroom, watering the dog, etc...you'll be lucky to steal fifteen minutes out of their busy lives to give your music any consideration. Unless, that is, there is a compelling reason for them to listen. . .

Here's a useless addtion to our humble website. Look on the Main Menu top left and cllick "Take a Survey." Please, whatever you do DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS POLL. I mean it now. DON'T respond. We don't want to be responsible for your opinions, O.K? That'd mean we'd have to do something you want us to do - and probably for free - so don't be expecting much. (What good is a website if you can't mess with your readers?)
Enjoy. - Mitch

| Random Reviews: Perpetual Hype Engine |
|
Although Perpetual Hype Engine list Zeppelin and Floyd as influences (facetiously, I'd guess) "Unpacified," from their 1999 release entitled, "CyberChrist," is more reminiscent of Ministry's "Stigmata"; the music is fast, violent, psychotic and disturbed and the lyrics are delivered via
throaty shouts and growls. Perpetual Hype Engine have refined the
"scream-band" technique (a style too-often heard from young white males in the Detroit area) to an art form, making them the only band I've heard that can pull it off convincingly. Combining guitar-crunching metal with stark electronic embellishments, PHE creates a sonic landscape fraught with dangers or thrills depending on your perspective. This is musical testosterone plugged into a 640v transformer while standing in a puddle of your own piss.
I've heard a lot about Perpetual Hype Engine in the two years I've volunteered for michigangaritsts.com, specifically that they are one of the most exciting live bands in Detroit. Is it true, or is it Hype Engine? You be the judge.

artist: Fuze
song - Complicated Man
Think we only do rock, pop and hip hop? Then you've never heard of FUZE, an extrememly talented jazz fusion band out of Southfield, MI. Listing Steely Dan, Jeff Beck, Santana, Frank Zappa, Pat Metheny, Herbie Hancock, Return to Forever, Medeski Martin & Wood, Liquid Soul, and Morphine as influences, Fuze borrows from all these amazing artiists to create musician's music of the first caliber. "Complicated Man," from their 1998 release entitled "Blown," reminds me of Al Dimeola's work in the eighties. Good stuff if you're a guitar freak or just a bandhead who appreciates quality musicianship.

| Red Dye 9 has new website |
|
Pop rockers Red Dye Nine have a new website that, if you don't mind those irritating pop-ups from Hypermart, does the job adequately. Ok, forget their stupid website, just click "Read More" below and go see Red Dye 9 live at any of the venues and dates listed. I caught them at the Magic Bag last year and they didn't waste my time. It's Power pop with a gritty edge and a sincere delivery; these guys believe in writing great songs and to hell with the rest - which is probably why they don't bother with making good websites. Click "Read More" and go see them live.

Our heartfelt sorrow and prayers go out to the victims and the family of the victims of yesterday's tragedies in New York City, The Pentagon and Pittsburg. Our pity goes out to the misguided fools who think this can somehow make the world a better place. There is no music in your heart and the shadows of our anguish will follow you into the hearafter.

| Random Reviews: Steven K's Parlour Dogs |
|
Artist - Steven K's Parlour Dogs
Song - Dancing For The Queen
"Dancing for the Queen" by Steven K's Parlour dogs takes me back to days when classically influenced rock was dominating the AOR charts in the early seventies. The opening reminds me of a royal arabesque or minuet (but in common time) then takes off in a Kansas-flavored theme, building to an open jam and then resolving just where it left off. Elaborately orchestrated and arranged, "Dancing for the Queen" is a rarity in contemporary pop in both it's length and complexity. I miss the days when listenig to a piece music was an experience in itself.
