 Inquiring Minds
Being the nosey bastards that we are we'd like your opinion on something.

What percentage of the music that you buy is from unsigned artists?

It's no secret that the profits of major labels are dropping off.  The record companies are attributing this to piracy, while some research shows that the worst file sharing offenders may actually buy more music than they did previously.  This begs the question; "If it's not piracy, could it be that people are looking for something different"?

The poll is not about a guilt trip, we'd like some honest answers here.  You can vote anonymously, but you will need to log in to add comments to the poll.  Find the poll on the lower right of this page or Click Here.

New site and Yahoo group for N.L.P Bands

Being an unsigned band can be tough enough in a metropolitan area of Michigan such as Detroit or Grand Rapids.  Imagine how difficult it can be living in a rural area of the state where gigs are few and far between and the nearest musician is a half hour drive away.

If you have a band based in the N.L.P. (Northern Lower Peninsula), there are two new internet destinations you should know about.

Click on read more below to get the  scoop and some personal insight from the M.B. webmaster.

 Hot Gear Updated
mflogo_trans 238x60Hey, I've updated the HOT GEAR section (under the Main Menu in the upper left of your screen) which features a few products from the Musician's Friend online catalog. I didn't really like the lame descriptions for the gear so I've re-written them for those with my droll sensibility. So even if you're flat broke and have no plans to purchase gear online, you might still find it an amusing read. Happy window shopping! - Mitch

 Bandheads In Repose II
Stricken with performance anxiety and writer's block, Editor Mitch Phillips decides to rediscover music on his own terms - again. In two short stories, "The Special Bubble" and "Panic and The Performance" he finds more than one excuse to pick up his instruments again.

When you feel obligated (even if the obligation is self-imposed) to report on local music and the CD's start piling up around you all you can think about is escape. This isn't a very healthy attitude...'

Life: After The Movie - Storm Records
Though it's been a long time coming, the "Life: After The Movie" compilation from Storm Records of Royal Oak finally made it's way out of Mitch's CD player and into his computer for a review.

'I really had no idea what a wealth of great punk bands we had in the Detroit area until I heard this disc. I felt like I'd just crawled out from beneath my own sheltered rock (my office) to discover punk for the very first time.'
