| Wooden Nickel to Feature Country Acts |
|
From Larry Garcia of DetroitCountryMusic.com.
As we all know, Country Music in the Detroit area has had it's ups and downs. This week we are proud to announce that a bar that left the Country Music format is coming back and DetroitCountryMusic.com and it's member bands are happy to be a part of it. The Wooden Nickel Saloon in Ypsilanti was once an anchor for Country Music on the West side of the city. As many clubs did however, they turned to other types of music during the 90's in order to keep up with competition. | Wrenfields release ''Seconds'' |
|
Three-time Detroit Music Award Winners, The Wrenfields, have released the follow-up to their 2001 smash debut entitled, "Seconds." The Dearborn based quintet's sophomore release delves deeper into the rocky roots of country, adding instruments such as banjo and mountain dulcimer, compliments of David Wolfenberger from the Harmony Ridge Creek Dippers. As with their critically acclaimed debut, "Seconds" was produced by Ohio native Tyler Brown. Look for a review of this release as soon as Mitch gets caught up on his writing.

Once
again, The Hungry Ghost
(Blake Chen) tops the Michigan
Charts at MP3.com. Back in September The Ghost was bumped out of the
top spot by a Greenwheel (Creed?), a misplaced national that is actually from
St. Charles, Missouri and somehow wound up on the Michigan charts.
The song, "Heaven Is A Dark Place", managed to maintain a top 5 position
on the chart in spite of the competition. Now the song is firmly planted
at number one.
Click read more below to find out who else is on the
charts. You might be surprised.

| Survey Results: Most Effective Marketing |
|
According to our last survey, "What's your most effective marketing technique?", posters/flyers and word of mouth are still the favored method of reaching an audience (33.33% and 31.25% respectively). E-mail and giveaways are still a good deal behind those methods (12.5% and 10.42% respectively). Street Teams and Press Coverage are tied with a paltry 4.17% (so why do I bother?) and direct mail and other methods of marketing tie for last with 2.08%. Nobody chose benefit concerts or table tee-pees as their most effective marekting technique. Our next survey asks, "What's Your Connection?" speed so we might better be able to serve you in the future. We've shyed away from fancy graphics on this site with the belief that most of you dial-up to Michiganbands.com. Let's see where we end up. Oh, and click "Read More" below for words of wisdom from our average survey respondent.

Chris Badynee is back with memories of Lili and another stream of consciousness piece about the thrills, spills and chills of living improvisational joy in "Another Laffing Gas gig at Lili's." 'For some reason, my bass sounds RANK today,
so i move to beating the body like a conga,
and slamming my fist near the strings.
I get a low WHOOOOOOOOOP BAP! WHOOOOOOOOOOP BAP-A-DAP!'
