Show Review: White Stripes @ The Masonic
SonicDisturbance writes
If Hendrix, Clapton, Randy Rhodes, Eddie Van Halen or Jimmy Page or on your short list of favorite guitar players, stop reading now. If Neil Peart or Stewart Copeland are your favorite drummers, see above. If Geddy Lee, Stanley Clarke or Billy Sheehan are your favorite bass players . . well you get the picture.
Now for the rest of us; or those who can appreciate a good show with out Mega Shredder Solos, click "Read More" for a review of The White Stripes at The Masonic Temple.

DMA 2003 Part One: Lost Again In Detroit
Instead of stressing myself out with a marathon writing and editing session, struggling over every detail like an anal-retentive dork, I decided to write about my 2003 Detriot Music Awards experience as it comes to me, when I feel like it, and as I please. I encourage you to do the same, but I won't hold my breath. It seems self-promotion and forums are the extent of participation on local music websites (without begging, anyway). It took us a whole year to learn that lesson and I suppose we should have known, really ( I mean, who has the time?). But I'm still daft enough to keep it up for the time being. With that in mind, here's part one of DMA 2003, "Lost Again in Detroit".

 Band Links Updates

We've just added two new blocks to the MB front page in a effort to level the playing field a bit.

In addition to the block that listed the band sites with the most total votes, we've now added the highest rated sites on a scale of 1 to 10 and the newest additions to the band link system.

We also cleaned out the votes to date. We will be doing this on a monthly basis so that every one has an equal chance.

Click on read more for "The rest of the story ..."

 2003 DMA Winners
We'll be posting more details about our experience at the 2003 Detroit Music Awards, but for the purpose of convenience Click Here for a list of the winners. Our congratulations and respect go out to all those who took home glass spires this year, but particularly to Tom and Sue Ness of JAM RAG magazine for their much deserved distinguished achievement award. We're humbled by your good-natured, selfless dedication to both local music and independent political thought.

Music Review: A Heap O' Livin' by The Beggars
Thanks to the impeccable taste of Kilkenny's Nick Woods, I had the good fortune to witness a last-minute performance by Royal Oak garage rockers The Beggars at the Frank J Calcaterra American Legion Post 386 in Eastpointe. From an ad-hoc set-up on the dance floor, The Beggars up-staged Kilkenny at their own CD release party (man, the nerve!). The show was great, but their debut ep, entitled "A Heap 'O Livin", is even better - the best thing I've heard since Kilkenny's ep. Click "Read More" for a quick, gushing review, applicable links and show dates.
