THE HOOLAPOPPERS REUNITE FOR ONE DETROIT SHOW

Static Records announces the reunion of The Hoolapoppers for one show only on Saturday, October 10, 9pm at the New Way Bar. Opening the show are The Zimmerman Twins from Toledo, Ohio.

The Hoolapoppers were a local pop rock quartet that hit the music scene in the mid-90s and lasted only a few short years, but in that time they made a name for themselves around the Midwest with their 1996 album “Trout Farm.”  The album featured the popular single “Phoebe Cates (Is Dead)” which became a local rock radio hit and a college radio staple around the Midwest. Other songs such as “(I Feel Like) Bob Dylan” and “Rockstar” had indie rock music critics praising the band for their “Good, solid, pop rock tunes.”

Detroit Live Magazine Celebrates 1 Year Anniversary
eric writes

Detroit Live Magazine published its first print edition in October 2008. In that time it has garnered a deserved reputation as a destination for all there is to know about music and entertainment in the Motor City and its environs. Previous issues have featured national artists like Candlebox and Slayer and up and coming rockers such as Pistol Day Parade and Pop Evil. There have also been insightful interviews with prominent local and national media personalities like journalist Gary Graff and WRIF-FM program director Doug Podell.

Doop & The Inside Outlaws Release

Get ready to hear Americana-Detroit style when Doop & The Inside Outlaws take the stage at their CD release party for their second album “Everett Belcher.” The performance and listening party takes place on Saturday, August 1 at 9pm at the Park Bar. Joining the Outlaws for this show are friends Matt Dmits, and Whitey Morgan and the 78s. To kick off the album release, Doop will perform on the Fox2 News Morning Show on Friday, July 31 at 7am.

Doop & The Inside Outlaws hail from downriver Detroit enclave of River Rouge. A firefighter by day and singer/songwriter by night, Don “Doop” Duprie and his band play a mix of outlaw country and rock n’ roll that comes straight from the soul. The band has steadily made a name for themselves this year, here in the city and beyond. They received three country nominations in the Detroit Music Awards; performed at the Downtown Hoedown; and their debut album, “Blood River,” was named one of the top local records of 2008 by the Metro Times. The album received critical acclaim by numerous radio stations and music websites worldwide.

 Michiganbands Welcomes Dead Silent Orchestra

Dead Silent OrchestraDead Silent Orchestra is a 5 piece original group out of Muskegon Michigan and our latest addition to the Original Artists / Modern Rock category.  The band was formed in 2007 and currently features Levi Partlow on vocals, Nick Cribley and Chase Maycroft on guitars, Tony Stone on drums, and Steve Cole on bass.  Since then, they've played their local scene relentlessly and feel they're are ready for bigger and better things. Their musical goal was to put their own spin on the mainstream modern rock sound, which has been described as, 'Chevelle and Breaking Benjamin fighting to the death, while Deftones and Nonpoint are taking bets!'   DSO release their debut "Comprimise Of Influence" in 2008 and you can hear samples at a couple different websites. Click "read more" below for a bunch of links.

Deuling Pianos Added To Band Link Specialties

The Funkeys deuling piano showAbout ten years ago I helped a friend move out to Phoenix and we went clubbing one night - at the mall.  That's right; the mall in Phoenix had three or four night clubs located side-by-side-by-side on the second floor.  You could walk from one club to the next through an opening in the wall on the far side of each bar.  The odd thing was, once you stepped from one club to the next, you were immersed in the music of the club you were in and could no longer hear the music of the one you left.  Well, once we had our fill of techno & rock, we ended up at a club with deuling piano players. It was, surprisingly, very entertaining. Back then it was a new phenom but now they're everywhere.  But as our latest submission in the newly created Cover Bands / Specialties / Dueling Pianos sub-category warns, not all deuling piano shows are created equal.

Before you make that critical decision about fighting ivories, click "read more" below for links to The Funkeys and Dueling Pianos International.
