Flipping the Pig - Self Titled
Reviewed by Wendie
Flipping the Pig's
self-titled online only album seems a little unfocused, but there's still plenty to enjoy in the 6 included songs. The first track Cross the Lips sounds a lot like Pink Floyd and then goes into a 5 minute dirge reminiscent of a lo-fi Godspeed "You Black Emperor". there aren't many vocals in this one, but the few lyrics there are are great. Weight of My Love, which is the most up-front song about sex on the album, is standard bar band three chord rock. I shouldn't say standard though, because there are a couple unexpected turns (the Sloan-like bass and handclap break and the vocal break). It borrows a beat from Primal Scream's Rocks and all in all is very catchy.

These Librarians Are Hip to Indie Music
Submitted by Christine Ayar,

You'd love to have more people hear your music. You're trying to reach a broader audience. You want to advertise, but don't have a lot of cash. Sound familiar?

The Salem-South Lyon District Library is reaching out to area musicians. The library is building a Local Artists Music Collection and is asking musicians in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Ontario to join.

Bands are asked to donate their CDs as well as promotional items to the library. In return, the library will make the items available for patrons to check out. A new musician will be highlighted each week and a concert series is being discussed.

I just got my Garden of Souls CD on Friday. It was perfect timing as I was just sliding into the car for a fairly long and boring drive to North Carolina so I popped it in...cranked it up and let me tell ya, it impressed the pants off of me!
