For years I've been receiving an e-mails from dozens of Michigan bands but couldn't possibly post every one (you see, the idea was for YOU to post them -oh well). Most of the e-mails are show promos but every once in a while there's a nugget of news I think you might like to read. I'll keep collecting these tidbits and post them monthly or as I see fit. If you'd like to send your newsletters or tid-bits to me, contact editor@michiganbands.com and put "MBlubs" in the subject field. Our first edition covers Stewart Franke, Nadir, Bump, Stephanie Loveless and Terry Lee Bolton. Click "read more" below.

Have The Bush Wars Affected Your Music?
|
Well, it's been four years, over 3500 Americans dead, tens of thousands wounded, millions of Iraqis displaced or otherwise disposed of, hundreds of billions of YOUR tax dollars wasted and there's still no end in sight. The Vulcan's war in Iraq and Afghanistan and the greater War On {{TERROR}} haven't exactly gone as planned (or have they, Dick?) and even die-hard Repulicons (sic) are now showing signs of pre-election war fatigue. Several national musical acts have stepped up to the plate with their own war songs (Neil Young, Green Day, Dixie Chicks, etc..) but what about right here in southeast Michigan? Have the Bush Wars affected your songwriting? Your shows? Your attitude? Please take our latest poll (located on right column) and please leave a comment (located at bottom of results page) as well. - Mitch

Ty Stone Announces Atlantic Deal
|
Since we lost rabble-rousing LA indie-trekker Ty Stone to Kid Rock's Top Dogg Records back in February of 2005, making him an offical nationally-released, ultra-hooked-up, rock'n R&B up-and-cummer, the graces just keep pouring the nectar on this local giant's head. Ty Stone announced on his MySpace blog that he has signed to the dream of all rock & roll dream labels, !!!!{{{{Atlantic Records}}}}!!!!. Mega congrats to Ty and everybody who worked so hard to make it happen. Ahmet Ertegun would be proud. - Mitch Click "read more" below for the announcement and a whole lotta Ty Stone links.

Bogdon Goes South Of The Border
|
While many Michigan companies are exporting jobs to Mexico so they can cash-in on the cheap labor and sell the goods back to us for an inflated profit, local entrepreneur Chris Badynee is doing his part to level our insane and unsustainable trade deficit. The local creator of the Bogdon Box Bass is exporting his musical wares south of the border where it's now known as the "Bajo Bass" (hey, I like it!). Perhaps if they can get their very own cardboard box bass in Mexico there will be one less reason to jump the fence! - Mitch Click "read more" below for a graphic, links and another one of Chris' "Bogdon Bass Adventures".

South Normal Calls It Quits
|
After fourteen years of beating the pavement, beating their heads against the wall, and beating a truly distinct groove in the annals of Michgian indie music, South Normal has called it quits in a MySpace blog posting dated June 7th 2007. Singer/songwriter Nathan Mackinder made the sad news official at 11:46 am, just two hours after brother/bassist Jeremy Mackinder called it quits in his own MySpace blog and two months after a dispiriting New York City label showcase where the band was dismissed with, "Frankly, its just not what we're looking for right now". Their loss. Our loss. Click "read more" for Nathan's message to their friends and fans and links to the band's website and past articles about South Normal. - Mitch

LEGEND is searching for a Keyboard Player/ Bass or Monster Bass Player with vocs
|
johnnylightnin writes:
The keyboardist in LEGEND is leaving the band because of his day work commitments. He sings a few fronts per set, backups, & has a great left hand to play bass with, Do you? Or, are you a monster bass player on a 4 string or excellent on a 5 or 6 string that also sings? Johnny Lightnin' does a lot of the singing but needs you to shine as the other lead singer. LEGEND plays out at both Modern Country and Classic Rock/Rock venues and is working almost every weekend. The play dates have been mostly in Livingston, Washtenaw, and Oakland counties, but LEGEND is always willing to branch out. The pay is quite decent as LEGEND is long known as a power trio. Example: Stevie Ray Vaughan or ZZ Top in the Rock market or as Blackhawk in Country music. Click "read more" below for a link and contact information.
