 MB Welcomes Lucy Browns Seville

Lucy Brown Got Soul Got FunkLucy Brown Got Soul Got FunkMB would like to welcome "Lucy's Brown Seville" to our original artists/funk&soul category

The band describes their own sound as 'heavily influenced by 60's/70's soul/blues and rock, influences like The Temptations,Stevie Wonder,Allman Brothers, and current bands like Galactic,Gov't mule etc.'  But there's shades of white soul brothers Steely Dan here too, and even local de-funkt west-side favorites Immigrant Blue. Good stuff here.....and it sounds so familiar.

Of course, there's a reason why I recognize these names and these sick grooves; vocalist/keyboardist Marcus "Concernicus", drummer Paul Winterhalter and guitarist Joe Nestico have all been here before in one band or another.  Curious?  - Mitch

 Process To Release New Single

The Process release "Gypsy WInd"Saginaw area reggae rockers The Process have released a new single, "Gypsy Wind", the first by the group alone with new material since 2002's "Blood and Bones".  If you're a fan of that record like I am, you won't be disappointed with the new single. It includes all the flair of their previous work; grandiose synth motifs punctuated by a bouncing synclavier, socially conscious lyrics delivered via David Asher's perfectly suited and insistent gravitas, and all served up on that familiar but infectious reggae rhythm for which The Process are known.

In short, this is more of their good stuff.  "Gypsy Wind" is the first of a series of digital singles they'll be releasing and again features the capable back-up pipes of Michelle Shaw and introducing Faith Gateway.

 MB Welcomes Lonesome Country

Lonesome Country If anyone had told me back in the day that Bill Arnold would be a crack dobro player for a bluegrass band in the future, I'd ask you what you were smoking and where I could get some. Bill was one of those cats who wood-shedded for weeks at a time until he emerged victorious from his bedroom, having mastered the guitar lead from some rock or metal band we all admired. The cat had tenacity and demanded perfection from himself.  Decades later, having become re-acquainted with my past through Facebook, there's Bill, tearing up the dobro in a great bluegrass band called Lonesome Country.  Their calendar seems a bit out of date on the webpage, so look 'em up on Facebook or YouTube and check 'em out.  - Mitch

MB Welcomes Lonesome Country to our Original Artists / Bluegrass and Original Artists / Country categories. Click "read more" for the band's description and a link.

Jay Hussle's FaceBook Flow Available For Download And Sharing

Jay Hussle releases Facebook Flow onlineI finally checked my MB messages after several months (spending too much time on FaceBook these days), I found a message from Pontiac-born-n-raised rapper, Jay Hussle.  Seems his flirtation with a major-label has come to a disappointing end so he's decided to release his latest recordings online - which seems perfectly appropriate considering "Facebook Flow" borrows its lyrics from Jay's status updates on Facebook. There are ten tracks waiting for your perusal over at PodBean.com with such pithy posts as, "I'm a henchman / hung up on the politics / If you talk a lot of shit / one day you will swallow it" and "..wake up in the morning with a sexy-ass soccer-mom / flip a couple pancakes / watch the way her ass shakes".  Wow, I have to step-up my Facebook game.  - Mitch

New Video: Eddie Leighton is all broke up about the Michigan economy

All Broke Up by Eddie LeightonEddie Leighton (of the Eddie Leighton Project) has posted a new video you'll want to check out, particularly if you've suffered any of the ill effects of the Michigan economy as of late.  "I'm Broke Up" finds Eddie in unfamiliar waters, struggling to find a job or economic opportunity of any kind.  "I've been up and down / I've been all over town / through thick and thin / and no one will help me out / I'm not used to this abuse / because I've never been here before...".  He does his best to stay optimistic, and patriotic (even stating the Pledge Of Allegiance) but pulls no punches in laying the blame at the feet of the fat cats who sold us out.  You'll want to check this one out.  Click Here to see "I'm Broke Up".
