DATERAID set to benefit Michigan artist
|
tomkat writes: 'DATERAID' is a benefit concert and silent art auction that will take place Jan. 20th 2008, at The Redrum in Kalamazoo starting at 1:00PM.
The concert was established for local artist Chris Neale, who grew up in the Paw Paw/Kalamazoo area, to raise money for hospital bills. The name DATERAID arises from Chris' nickname growing up where he was called 'Dater', because before changing his last name to Neale, it was Date. Chris, who lives in Texas, was diagnosed with liposarcoma, a cancer of the soft tissue. Doctors removed a 10-pound tumor from his abdomen that had caused a great deal of pain. Following his week-long hospital stay he had amassed around $50,000 in hospital bills, and he did not have health insurance.

5th Annual ''Home For The Holidaze'' Benefits Area Homeless
|
 |
The holidays are now upon us and it is time once again for the fifth annual showcase "Home for the Holidaze" - a singer-songwriter music showcase and benefit for area homeless shelters. The event brings together local singer-songwriters and former Detroit musicians who are home for the holiday season. It is a chance for them to perform for a good cause as the proceeds from the event will go towards food donations to area homeless shelters. We also accept pet food donations to be distributed to the local animal shelters, Almost Home (almosthomeanimalrescue.org) and Cinder Fund (cinderfund.org).
This year we are teaming up with Charity Music (charitymusic.com) a local non-profit organization that provides musical instruments to less fortunate children in the community to help foster their musical interests and talents. We will be accepting donations of used musical instruments to distribute to these kids. Any donated used instruments from school band instruments to guitars can be put to good use. WRIF presents the ''Rockin' for Vinnie'' benefit concert and rock auction
|
faith148 writes:
On September 29, 2007, 12-year-old Vinnie Ocelnik died in a tragic car accident near his home. Now, Detroit is coming together for one special night. WRIF presents Rockin’ for Vinnie, a 12-hour benefit concert and rock auction on Saturday, November 3 starting at 1 pm at The Ritz in Warren. The proceeds will go to the Vincent Ocelnik Memorial Fund to help his family cover the funeral and medical costs.
Vinnie Ocelnik was the son of Beth Ocelnik of CB Entertainment in Warren. Beth is a much-loved and well-respected booking agent in Detroit’s hard rock/metal scene and when her friends at WRIF heard the news, they immediately wanted to help.
“Our hearts go out to Beth, her husband and their family over the loss of Vinnie,” said WRIF program director Doug Podell. “I have worked closely with Beth through The Ritz. Beth is like family and it feels as if we have lost one of our own.”
