| Interview: Vinnie & Dana from CRUD |
|
Since 2000, Crud has been giving some of the most talked-about live performances in the city of Detroit and beyond. They've been known to wear vinyl, perform in their underwear, wear pasties, play strip joints and have even shared their stage with some scary-ass, bad-mannered puppets. Crud's 'super-charged sex rock' has been compared to White Zombie and Ministry and their latest CD, “Devil At The Wheel”, was described by one fan as, ‘'a thoroughly enjoyable romp through the kind of sleazo, nitrous oxide-injected rock'n'roll that anyone with a taste for nasty guitars and pounding rhythms is gonna dig’. Couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Crud’s label, Full Effect Records, will be sending the crew on tour in support of the international release of “Devil At The Wheel”. I caught up with frontman Vin E Dombrowski (Sponge, Orbitsuns) and bassist Dana Forrester (60 Second Crush) this week via e-mail. | Interview: Radar Pilot's John Piasentin & Art Peitsch |
|
In 2005, members from two of our favorite bands merged to form Radar Pilot. John Piasentin from the progressive group Space Nelson and Art Peitsh from Super Model-T found themselves bandless in 2005 and kicked around the idea of writing together. By early 2006 they'd penned almost a dozen new tracks and didn't have to look very far for a willing rhythm section; former bandmates Jeff Golzynski (Super Model-T) and Eric "Fish" Fischer (Space Nelson) were happy to oblige on bass and drums respectively. The result was, well, best described as two-parts Space Nelson and two-parts Super Model-T. We caught up with Art & John by e-mail a week before their upcoming gig at Smalls in Hamtramck. You've heard the rumors flying about, you've seen the members pop up all over town in different bands. Two years and a handful of promises later, one of Detroit's most popular live rock bands, FACE, are exploring their options after failing to score label interest for their smash, self-titled debut. We caught up with FACE guitarist Mike Smith for an interview to find out once and for all, "Is there any way to save FACE?"

So Creed has topped Bilboard chart for two weeks? Big deal. You say Madonna and Michael Jackson have been top of the pops for a couple months? Child's play. What if I told you a local boy's topped the charts for two years and still holds the top sixteen positions? Read Mitch Phillips' interview with Southhaven composer Ronald Silverlight and find out how he's become the undisputed champion of downloads and online plays on the Michigan MP3 chart. Lucy Webster Interview
by Mitch Phillips
Ancient History
Lucy Deloach was born in Tenessee and raised in Pennsylvania by strict Southern Baptist parents. She showed an aptitude for music at an early age, banging out church songs on piano by ear for fellow bible students. She picked up the guitar at age 13, drawn to the instrument after a musical awakening at bible camp. When her father was convinced the guitar was more than just a flirtation, he bought her a “real” guitar at age 17 which she still owns and plays to this day. An homage to that guitar can be found as a hidden bonus track on “Keeping My Fingers Crossed.”
