Check out Ann Delisi's Essential Music on WDET

Hey Folks,

I just wanted to let you know if you didn't already that Ann Delisi has a weekend show on WDET (101.9 FM) called "Essential Music" which features local Detroit area music every hour.  It airs Saturday and Sunday from noon until 4:00 pm.  You can also submit music for her show's theme until March 22nd.  Details can be found at the website (http://www.wdetfm.org/ann-delisi.php).  Check it out and make a small donation while you're at it, ok.  Let them know the local music community supports this move.

It's about time local music got some serious air time, eh?

Take care of yourselves,

Mitch

Looking For Original Music For A&E Television Series

HYBRID FILMS is looking for new, original music from Michigan musicians for use in our hit television series PARKING WARS, currently airing on A&E Network.

We're looking for music in all genres as long as there are lyrics (we are all set with instrumental/background tunes). We REQUIRE that musicians own and control (or at least can help us license quickly and easily) all rights (i.e. NO COVERS). Bands must be registered with either ASCAP or BMI. We can't pay up an upfront licensing fee, but we will credit the band at the end of the ep, include their info on A&E's website and all royalties are applicable. If the above sounds good to you-- please send me your CDs.

CDs should be sent to:

Radio Free Michigan - F'in ROCKS!

Radio Free Michigan streams independent music from MichiganIf you're looking to satisfy your local music jonz while you're paying your bills online, surfing internet porn or just want to hear something {{{{{{fresh}}}}} in the background while you operate your electric dog polisher, RADIO FREE MICHIGAN has you covered with a constant stream of home-grown music from all genres - just like terrestrial radio used to do before it got greedy, boring and stupid.  In the span of just a half-hour, I heard rock, hard rock, soul, blues, pop, a solo acoustic performance and some pseudo-funky progressive stuff so cool you would NEVER hear it on terrestrial radio.  And the best part is it's all LOCALLY PRODUCED in Michigan - NOT in L.A., NOT in Mexico, NOT in China, NOT in South America or any other distant locale where all the jobs have gone.  This is the way to get hip to new local music.  I've already found some new favorites (Crop Circle's "Flatland Queen" for one, Sweet Japonic's "Two O'Clock Sirens" for another) and I'm confident you will find some new favorites too.  Tune in now while it's still interesting. -  Mitch

 313 Jac Closes

Sorry, this is a bit late but....

313 Jac ClosesNovember 11, 2008 - After 12 years, the downtown rock n’ roll club 313.jac located upstairs at Jacoby’s is being shut down by the owners of the establishment. Promoters Stirling and Sue Static were asked to cease bookings there and the last weekend of shows is this coming weekend. According to what the owners told them they have no new plans for the upstairs but are moving away from the rock n’ roll community to a more gentrified  bar/restaurant atmosphere.

“We would like to thank the Detroit rock n’ roll music community, the bands and music fans that have supported us there for the past twelve years. Thank you for a most memorable run and we’ll see you soon, you can count on it.”

The team of Stirling and Sue Static will venture forward to a new location in the coming new year, so stay tuned. They vow to continue their support of the rock n’ roll scene in Detroit for years to come.

 Check Out Detroit Rock Review

If you've been living in a cave lately, at least as far as the virtual local music scene is concerned (a cave in itself for sure - one I've been meaning to escape for over a decade), you may have missed one of, if not THE the most active local music review websites happening out there. I'm speaking, of course, of DR2 or Detroit Rock Review. Mark & Don have been churning out CD reviews, live reviews and local music news items over the past year. There's ta on of pictures of live shows too.  If you have any interest in local music and have a MySpace account or a DetroitCity.com account, chances are you've already read at least one of their reviews. So go check 'em out if you haven't already and give 'em their props.  www.detroitrockreview.com
