Re: Songwriting Contest Winners Announced (Score: 1) by MeMyselfAndI on Tuesday, October 05, 2004 @ 12:11:08 MDT (User Info | Send a Message) http://www.mmeproductions.com | The most immediate thing that jumps out is that a few writers won several times. Regardless of whether it is true, it gives the impression they were shoe ins or previously familiar to the judges.
The second thing and related to the first is that the information on the web page doesn't state, or at least not clearly, if the judges are informed who the artist is before listening to their music. Again, with multiple entries allowed, and the possibility the judges have heard the artists before, there is the chance that they will be biased by liking one of the songs they have already heard, (from an entry) or if they are familiar with the artist.
The best thing to do would be to only allow one entry per artist. The only really fair way to do it. Of course that would cut down on the "take" money wise. I am certainly not against someone taking in money or making money for their time but that seems the clear indicator of why multiple entries would be allowed and thus puts it ahead of impressions of impropriety by the administrators of the contest. |
