National acts include Waterproof Blonde from Louisville, KY; Planet-12 from Columbus, OH; and Rockit Girl from Chicago, IL. The Cavern, located at 1120 Walnut Street, and Barrelhouse Brewery, located at 22 East 12th Street, will open their doors at 8:00 p.m. on both evenings. Both venues are 21+. Buttons will be sold at the door for $15, which provides access to the venues for both evenings. A cover charge of $8 will allow fans to enter both establishments for a single evening.
Chicks RockFest, born four years ago, is the brainchild of local musician Jenny Schmidt. After recognizing the talent of several female-fronted bands in the area, she decided to create a night when they could all perform together. “It first started as three bands for one night a year,” says Schmidt. “I ended up having dozens of bands that wanted to play. This year, we’ve received submissions from all over the country, including major recording artists, and I couldn’t be more excited. It’s all about celebrating women in music and having a great time.”
Door prizes and compilation CDs of performing artists will be available throughout the event. CRF is in the process of finalizing sponsorship for the festival, and inquiries are welcome.
