Music Community Jams to Help Toys For Tots Date: Friday, November 28, 2003 @ 06:41:04 MST Topic: Press Release
The holiday season is quickly sneaking up on us, but area musicians are getting into the Christmas spirit a little early. On Saturday, November 29th eleven musical acts from mid-Michigan will gather together at The Old Town Bar & Grill, 109 E. Main St., Brooklyn, to sponsor a Toys For Tots Benefit Jam. This is a great opportunity to listen to some of the premier live bands in the area, and at the same time help Toys For Tots help many needy children have a Merry Christmas! Click "Read More" below for details.
Toys For Tots began in 1947 when Major Bill Hendricks and his fellow United State Marine Reservists in Los Angeles collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children. Now in its 56th year, The Marine Corps Toys For Tots Foundation was named "Best Children's Charity" in the November 2003 edition of Reader's Digest.
Some of the entertainers donating their time and talents for this benefit are Debbie Jordan & Mike Strange (Brooklyn); April Gibson (Belleville) & Austin Scott (Redford); Star 69 (Manchester); Absolute Blue (Vandercook Lake); Totally Disturbed (Mount Clemens); Voice Of Reason (Jackson); Narrow Seven (Brooklyn); Poorboy Music (Birmingham); and Overload (Cement City). EC Productions of Brooklyn will provide the sound and lighting equipment. Narrow Seven will host this event and will be providing most of the stage equipment for the benefit.
This special Toys For Tots benefit begins at 2 p.m. on the 29th, and will last until well after midnight! Donation to enter this event will be $5 or a new unwrapped toy per person. There will be prizes given away all afternoon and evening, donated by local sponsors and businesses. All the proceeds from this benefit will go directly to the local Marine Corps Toys For Tots Foundation.
