Back Fourty - Blazing old trails in a new way
Date: Tuesday, August 05, 2003 @ 08:00:53 MDT
Topic: Press Release

Michigan based Back Forty are bringing their diverse music to ears in southeastern Michigan. The lyrics in their song, "Screen Door" explain the band perfectly: "The smooth transitions of jazz, the harsh chagrin of twang". Their music is as if you were walking through a screen door into the woods of Northern Michigan, and venturing out to the back forty. The core element of the music is folk music, but this is taken to an extreme, as they explore folk sounds from around the world and fuse them with an improvisational style that is unlike any other sound in the area. This may be folk music but it is not your father's folk music.

Nothing is off limits as far as music styles are concerned. The band members backgrounds include too many genres of music to list yet their sound is rooted in acoustic music and is able to get a bar room dancing or produce soothing arrangements for coffee houses. Its Bob Dylan to the tenth power. Simplified, Back Forty is about people getting together, enjoying fine handcrafted music and having a good time with friends. When they play, the room is full and there are smiling faces because the music comes from the heart.
