Why internet radio?
Internet radio is one of the fastest growing media formats in the world. Computers are everywhere, but most notably in the workplace. Statistics show that the greatest listenership occurs between the hours of 9 to 5 while people are at work. Think about it, when was the last time you saw a radio setting on someone's desk? With the increasing number of high speed connections, more and more people are listening to music while they work or surf the web.
| An estimated 103 million Americans age 12 and older have ever used Internet audio or video broadcasts, according to a new study by Arbitron and Edison Media Research. The study reveals that the percentage of all Americans who currently use Internet audio or video (44 percent) is nearly twice the size of what it was three years ago (24 percent). |
For now internet radio is pretty raw, with much of the content geared towards the counter culture. Almost anyone with the right equipment, knowledge and time can run their own broadcast. It's time to act now to get your music heard while you still can. Companies like ClearChannel are gobbling up stations like a hacker eating Twinkies. People can only handle so much, it's time to give them an alternative now while we still can.
Why SubPopulous?
From my first conversation with the SubPopulous "Posse", I knew that we had found a partner. The team that runs this station are "True Believers" in the indie spirit. The guys are in their own band and understand what groups go through trying to get their music on traditional radio. Their solution was to start their own station and offer a live stream of indie music 24/7. The cool thing is that they will only be playing bands from Michigan which, like this site, helps to keep the focus local and relevant.
In the future they will set up multiple streams with different formats. Since they run a live stream it is possible for them to run interviews and all sorts of content. For now they need more material to make this a reality.
This is a great opportunity to get your music in front thousands of listeners that are trying to find you. Print off the submission form and get it in the mail with two CDs today.
A note about the submission and cancellation forms.
It is necessary that you sign the form and submit it by mail with your CDs. Make no mistake that the powers that be would love to have the opportunity to shut down anything that infringes on the stats quos. SubPopulous needs to have this form on file to protect themselves against this kind of legal attack. Read the form and you will see that it gives them the right to play your music on their station and nothing else.
Get the submission form here. Fill it out and mail it with two copies of your CD ( one for rotation and one for backup) to the address on the form.
Should you ever decide you don't want our music aired on SubPopulous you can request that they stop playing it. Just submit the cancellation form available here. This is for your protection. This way no one but you can take the music down. SubPopulous will be instituting an online cancellation form soon that will not require mailing.
