GREEN STREET FAIR TO HIGHLIGHT MICHIGAN-BASED BUSINESSES
Plymouth, MI (March 19, 2008) – The Green Street Fair, presented by Whole Foods Market, will blend companies, non-profit organizations, artisans, live music, workshops and speakers together in a friendly and family-oriented outdoor environment. The event will be held on the streets of Downtown Plymouth on May 3 and 4, 2008. Attendees of the Green Street Fair will be encouraged to learn the benefits of green, organic, and eco-friendly products and services. This free event will showcase local and national businesses displaying, demonstrating and/or selling on-site.
Michigan-based companies and organizations will have added exposure at the event as they promote their products and services. Co-Founder of Green Street Fair, Terri O’Brien, recognizes the importance of supporting local business. “The Michigan economy has suffered over the last few years,” said O’Brien. “There is a wide range of green products and services available right in our own back yard and we truly want consumers to become aware of the quality goods that are available locally.” Michigan-based exhibitors will have a State of Michigan icon indicated within their booth allowing people to recognize which companies are based locally. “I’m very excited to be a part of this event,” said Chrissy Wilbee, owner, Boh Bon Soap Company, “This is a great way to not only showcase local products, but also educate people on the small steps they can take toward a more sustainable lifestyle.”
Leading up to the Green Street Fair, ITC Holdings, headquartered in Novi, Michigan and Lawrence Technological University, located in Southfield, Michigan will be working with students at Plymouth’s East Middle School on a project called Green Box City. Glen LeRoy, Dean of the College of Architecture and Design at LTU, along with his faculty and students will be leading the green building project. Green Box City will teach the middle school students how to create a green city incorporating wind farms and solar energy into the urban development. The project will be assembled with recycled materials including cardboard boxes and containers. Sponsored by ITC Holdings, the Green Box City will be built on-site during the two-day event.
"We applaud Green Street organizers, Whole Foods Market and the city of Plymouth for sponsoring this noteworthy event," said Linda H. Blair, executive vice president and chief business officer for ITC Holdings Corp. "As an electricity transmission company, we are keenly sensitive to the role that education can play in helping us communicate with customers and the public about the importance of a robust and reliable energy grid. Our company is dedicated to facilitating renewable resource generators, like wind farms, onto the nation's energy superhighway. As the only independent transmission company in the country, ITC is focused on helping create a sustainable energy future."
