KillZone Records of Austin, TX, a notable indie label that specializes in metal music, signed local rockers Dendura, the female-fronted, Egyptian-inspired, progressive metal band with belly dancers (Got all that?), to a one-album deal on their label.

“Dendura is a perfect fit for KillZone because they stand out from the norm in terms of talent, ability and marketability,” said Stuart Banks, president of KillZone Records. “They present an unforgettable approach to progressive metal that builds and weaves dark themes with the allure of sensual mystery. Their music calls from a past that touches both the primal and inquisitive nature of our souls. They combine powerful, heavy music that drives like the shifting sands, carrying vocals like rising smoke and invoking the ghosts of a land and time long passed, but never forgotten."

KillZone Records is a strong indie label for metal and extreme music bands. The company plans to release the next Dendura album in 2008 and the band is currently discussing the project with a well-known, national producer.

“After talking to a few labels, we knew that KillZone Records was the best fit,” said vocalist Aziza Poggi of Dendura. “KillZone has a great approach with their artists and distribution through major labels. KillZone also works with big producers. We’re looking forward to releasing our next album through them and anxious to see where this journey takes us.”

After selected shows in Grand Rapids (with belly dancer Sarah Mayne) and Detroit (with belly dancer Abida Blaze), including an upcoming show with national recording artists Edguy and Echoes of Eternity, Dendura will hibernate in the studio for several months to work on new tracks as well as a film score.

Dendura is no stranger when it comes to recording music for films. Their track "In the Hall of the Mountain King" is the theme song for the Comedy Central cartoon "Monsters Ballz" created by Paul Rodenburg of Grand Rapids. "Monsters Ballz" is the story of four monsters who live in middle America and how they react with society at large. The cartoon is a fish-out-of-water story. But some of the fish have teeth and virtually no morals.

"In the Hall of the Mountain King" is part of Edvard Grieg’s 1867 composition for the Peer Gynt Suite Number. 1. The piece describes Peer’s sneak attack into the Mountain King’s castle and his subsequent attempt to escape from the king after he insults his daughter.

In addition to Comedy Central, the band also licensed music for several projects including "Perception", a film distributed in India, "Cycle of Fear", a Canadian film released last year, and "The Devil’s Eye", a horror movie.

Their most recent contribution is the full metal version of "I Have a Gun" that appears in the closing credits of "Broken", the award-winning feature film directed by Derek Justice and David DeLeon for Top 250 Productions. In addition, Aziza stars in the film as a newspaper editor whose emotionally- and physically-abused state leads her to drug addiction. The film also stars Dave Gries (of Zeeland) who plays her love interest and Steve Hopton (of Mt. Clemens in metro Detroit), the former vocalist of Riot In Progress, who plays her abusive boyfriend.

The script for "Broken" advanced to the top 250 finalists, of about 7,000 entries, for season one of "Project Greenlight", the Bravo television series sponsored by Miramax, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. The film recently won first place in the Best Crime Drama category at The Indie Gathering film festival in Cleveland as well as the Best Drama Award and Audience Award at the Trinity Film Festival in Detroit.
