On Saturday, July 9, 2005, the Livingston Underground and SELCRA (Southeast Livingston County Recreational Authority) present Skate-A-Que: The Livingston County Extreme Sports and Music Festival. 20 bands will be featured on two stages at Meijer Skate Park in Brighton. The bands will include the best in Livingston County all ages music, ranging from punk to metal to rap . . .Joining the Livingston County bands on stage will be a smattering of out-of-town acts from Flint, Detroit, and other surrounding areas. Flint's Silence the Wake, Detroit's Downtown Brown, and Brighton's Boston Ivy co-headline the event, which will be the largest all ages concert ever staged within the borders of Livingston County.
Meijer Skate Park is at 333 Charles Orndorf Drive in Brighton, directly behind Meijer on Grand River just west of downtown. Cost of admission is $8.00. $1 from each ticket will be donated to the fund to rebuild the historic Howell Opera House, one of the most promising local music venues in the state, which has been dormant for nearly 80 years.
A full sponsor list will be announced soon, but already includes SayHy Radio, Blue Collar Booking, Static PR, Lakehouse Records, Stand Up Jack Zine, and more.
The goal of the Livingston Underground is to eventually provide a full time venue for all ages musicians to perform safely in a no-alcohol, no-smoking environment. Currently, we are raising money towards that goal, and providing all ages shows at various venues, including the Howell Recreation Center, First United Methodist of Brighton, and the historic Howell Opera House.
Along with the full lineup of music, festival attendees may skateboard, rollerblade, shop at booths from local vendors, eat tasty food, and sample free local music on CDs from area bands. Free water will be provided to help battle any potential heat.
Information for the show can be found at www.livingstonunderground.com. Interviews can be scheduled by calling Nate Dorough, Livingston Underground founder, at (810) 772-9447. Promotional materials may be available at the time of interview, including promo photos of area bands involved in the event.
