 Distortion Dave presents:
distortiondave writes
MichiganBand's own "distortiondave" is pleased to announce his award-winning TV production, "City Beat" is currently playing in Royal Oak and Ferndale on Comcast 55 & Wide Open West 10 (Royal Oak only) and features "Randy Volin & the Sonic Blues" for those in need of a fix of great blues!

Check WROK's billboard for air dates and times.

City Beat, hosted by James Wailin' who also doubles as a cameraman has added his smokin' harp playing, features live performances and interviews with up and coming local bands as well as established, well known talent utilizing a state of the art, professional 4 camera production truck which features a digital switcher, DVC Pro decks, digital cameras, an analog mixing console and way too much to mention here!
The show is shot (and sponsored in part) at Fifth Avenue Billiards during daytime hours for a "controlled" atmosphere with the proficient technical support of Donnie Davenport supplying us with his usual "awesome audio" mix.

WROK-TV's "Distortion" David Kupczak would also like to thank Fifth Avenue's General Manager, Agu Nwosu as well as owner, Dan Stover for allowing us to utilize their facility.
And we cannot forget to thank Woody's Diner for feeding our over-worked volunteer crew who incidentally deserve a BIG THANK YOU as well as some sexual favors perhaps.....

And finally Richard Wilson, Cable Manager who against his better judgment gave me the go-ahead to produce a musical show and Greg Walter for Technical Directing and sometimes even (imagine this) listening to my demands regarding what camera to cut to...
And the Bands...I Love You All and consider you my friends for life!

Schedule:

Be sure to catch Randy Volin & the Sonic Blues every Friday at midnight on Community Media Network's (CMN) channel 52 for Comcast subscribers or channel 18 for Wide Open West (WOW) viewers to see the show in the following towns:

Ferndale
Huntington Woods
Pleasant Ridge
Berkley
Royal Oak
Clawson
Troy
Rochester
Rochester Hills
Auburn Hills*
Oakland Township*
*Not available on Wide Open West (WOW)

That's a total of 11 cities folks, so be sure to tune in to see Randy Volin & the Sonic Blues
starting Friday, July 25th through the end of August. Hell, here's a good excuse to learn how to set that VCR of yours!

Keep your eyes on WROK-TV, CMN & Michiganbands.com this August to catch the Celtic, Bluegrass, Country/Rock Irish flavorings of "Company of Strangers" with award-winning host Courtney Patrick (you know, my favorite vocalist/babe/adopted sister from the straight-up Rock band FACE) doing the interview honors.

Although the City of Royal Oak has cut budgets which eliminated "Distortion" David Kupczak's job, the show must go on and will continue with the Distorted One producing and directing as well as begging for (Hell, demanding) Vicodins....I mean come on, it's a ***** headache and a half to get the crew, band, venue and schedules for everyone involved to coincide, not to mention all the whining I have to contend with!

Ironically enough, although Dave's full-time job at WROK-TV is history his City Beat Series won 5 Access Ability Awards this year:

Performing Arts: The Wrenfields
Artistic Expression: Blackman & Arnold
Original Music Video: FACE
Entertainment: Thornetta Davis & Brett Lucas
Series Overview: Clip Show of All Bands, 2003
and while we're at it:
Children's Programming featuring musician Guy Louis & The Chautauqua Express.

Also in 2002 David won the Performing Arts category for City Beat featuring "The Brothers Groove". This band consists of the most in-demand local musicians I can honestly think of.
