Well, the band links are piling up which means it must be time to get some work done. But instead of giving each of these fine, homegrown acts their own well-deserved space on Michiganbands.com, I'm going to be lazy and lump them all together under this one article heading ( send your complaints to Dept. Of Local Music Volunteers, c/o someone who still gives a shit). So click "read more" below and let me introduce to you the cavemanic musical stylings of Scott Cooley, the original and cover-band versions of Indecision, the alcohol & hate-fueled screams of Our Fate In Hell, and finally we'll explore Zero Down's tenuous connection to Mitch Ryder via the mysterious "Rico".
If You're Interested In The Licensing Caveman Rock, You've Come To The Right Place
The music of Scott Cooley is best described by the man himself on the "radio" page of his website: 'crude caveman rock (featuring) out-of-tune acoustic instruments, off-beat percussion, out-of-synch mixing, (and) poor technique." But that hasn't stopped Scott from covering every conceivable angle from the music-business perspective, just in case dumb luck and a lightning strike catch this self-deprecating singer/songwriter unaware. Among other features, Scott's website includes an exhaustive account of his one-man publishing company (complete with a handsome logo featuring a sailboat) which goes so far as to outlilne the company's purpose & goals, instructions on how to obtain permission for performance of his songs, instructions on how to obtain rights and licensing, ASCAP identification, lyric sheets, and on and on and on. If someone needs cavemanic rock, Scott's ready for them. Finding a sample of his music, however, is a bit trickier. He's included only a couple samples, one is a maritime folk song and the other a cavemanic ditty on his MySpace page called "As If You Care". Other than that he aint giving much away from his now four full-length releases, the latest of which came out just this year (2008) and is called Drive Time Companion. If you're sincerely interested in his music, you might be able to get a copy at: http://www.scottcooley.com/
(Photo) Paid Product Placements Or Local Band Website - We Can't Decide
We here at Michiganbands.com take pride in our complete lack of vision, our absolute inability to set goals and a complete disregard for making any decisions when it comes to the future of this website. But now we find that there's at least one other group of guys out there who have promised to "...take indecision to the next level." That's the band Indecision rather, our latest submission in the Original Artists / Hard Rock category, in reference to the recent addition of a long-time friend "Matt" to their drummer slot. The band started four years ago but they could never decide if they should just play originals or just play covers - so they did both. Then they couldn't decide whether they should have just their own website, or just have a MySpace page - so they did both. Finally they made the worst decision of all; they relied on Michiganbands.com to promote their music. Ok, so maybe it's not the worst decision ( I'd give that to becoming a bandhead in the first place ) but we're happy to have them on board anyway.
Eat The Rich With Salt And A Sharp Fork
The conclusion of Alain de Botton's book Status Anxiety is that, roughly, working-class schmucks who worry about their place in a society that continually rewards the rich while pissing on the poor should seek to express themselves through art, adapt a bohemian lifestyle and seek out others who do the same. Some will appease their socioeconomic angst with painting, some with crafts, some with stupid local music websites and others with a fucking vengeance. Our Fate In Hell do the latter and is our latest submission to the Original Artists / Hardcore & Metal category. This five-piece killing machine from west Michigan describe themselves as '...a hard working underground metal band that will continue to burn up the road with alcohol fueled hate for high class america.' So you rich dicks should crawl back into your gated communities with your pretentious McMansions, your Hummer H2's and your big, fat, tax breaks while the rest of us get drunk, sing Motorhead's "Eat The Rich" and enjoy Our Fate In Hell, because this is one exclusive party to which you're not invited - unless you want to pay for the booze, of course. Plausible Name Dropping For Zero Down!
Zero Down's latest forum post (actually, their only forum post so far) made liberal use of their tenuous connection to Mitch Ryder via a keyboardist known only as "Rico" who allegedly gigged with the local rock celeb from 1994 to 2001. Back when I was a bowling-alley celebrity we used to make use of a similar claim, except our keyboardist allegedly worked for ? And The Mysterians. It didn't do much for our prestige in the music world, but thankfully it didn't take much to impress the beer-soaked locals who paid our way to play classic rock on a weekly basis. We never found confirmation about our keyboardist's claim to fame, or for the mysterious "Rico", but Zero Down's word is good enough for us which is why they're our latest band link submission in the Cover Artists / Classic Rock category. Their available for 'ALL events, concerts, nightclubs, Bars, festivals, corporate, private partys, or anything else that needs a great band.' Zero Down plays 'dancable music from the 60's through the 90's' and have a demo available upon request at: thezerodownband@yahoo.com.
