 MBlurbs: Aug 15th 2007
Since we rarely mix sex with our drugs and rock & roll around here, we'd thought we'd shake things up a bit for Dream Cruise Week 2007 with runway models in every flavor. So this months first installment of MBlurbs will feature stories about Blondes, Brunettes and Redheads, including: a giant blonde who proves she won't "go down" without a fight (Nudge, Nudge, wink, wink, know whatta' mean? Say no more.); a sassy brunette who insists she can teach you a thing or two about "making music" (Right, MAKING MUSIC, very good, say no more.); and finally, a fiesty redhead who spends a lot of time in the bathroom and even more with a "golden statue"(Oooh! Ya wicked Ay! Oooh hooh! Say No MORE) Intrigued you nasty bandhead?
Click "read more" below.

A Blonde...

From the Never-Ever-Don't-Even-Think-About-Saying-"Die" Department (which MB created): Singer/songwriter Britney Bockleman has proven once again you just can't keep a determined Amazon down! Amazon Blonde has resurfaced once again in 2007 with Vlad (guitar), Britney (vocs), Gregg (drums) and Danielle (bass) filling out the line-up this time around. The band has existed in one form or another since early 2004 but they've finally finished the follow up to their debut ep "Empty Handed" with a six-banger called "On The Rocks" and they'll be holding a CD release party later this fall. There will be more dates, but in the meantime, check out some new material on myspace at Myspace.com/amazonblondedetroit

A Brunette...

So I'm feeding my Crowded House fetish at The Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor last night and while I'm stuffing popcorn in my face and dropping it down my shirt who should I find sitting in the very same row not two seats away? Why, it's none other than former Atlantic Records recording artist and multi-DMA award winner Liz Larin. Though she spent nearly the entire concert scrawling lyrics on the side of a popcorn bucket with a Sharpie™ (and don't think I'm exaggerating), I did manage to tease some news out of her before the show.

Turns out Liz has scaled-back her torturous gigging schedule just a bit to take time to pursue other avenues of musical expression - including teaching. Yup, Liz has hooked-up with Masters of Music Teaching Studio in Royal Oak and will be accepting a limited number of hand-picked students for private instruction in guitar (electric and acoustic), and bass (electric). She'll also be working with students who want to improve their song-writing, lyrics/poetry and elements of composition.

But don't think Larin's resting on her laurels because she's working on what may be her most ambitious musical project yet. The details are still sketchy at this time, but let it suffice to say that it won't be her usual fare and she plans on releasing five CD's worth of music over the next five months. With that kind of deadline, no wonder she's writing on popcorn buckets! Check her out at LizLarin.com

...and A Redhead

Speaking of Atlantic recording artists, local-boy-made-good Ty Stone is hard at work mixing his four-years-in-the-making major-label debut in the toxic bowels of Teaneck, New Jersey. According to his myspace blog, Ty suffered a bout of food poisoning during the sessions but did what he had to do for 3-time Grammy Award winning Producer/Engineer knows as Commissioner Gordon Williams. Ty has been mixing in the Commish's studio called The Underground Railroad, where such runaway hit-makers as Lauren Hill, Alecia Keys, Will Smith, KRS1, Santana, Joss Stone and many others decorate the walls. Even though there was no lack of inspiration in that atmosphere, Ty hedged his bet by hanging his hat on the Commish's Grammy (above photo). Let's hope for his sake the success rubs off. Keep up with Ty at myspace.com/tystone
