Welcome to the second editon of MBlurbs, in which we glean from your e-mails the local music news of the day. In this edition, singer/songwriter Graham Strachan has been busy making sense of his life without Robb Roy. Classical-Rock keyboardist and local celeb-brother Michael Quatro hired an "Animal" to spice-up his riverboat shows and Muskegon's Four Finger Five have found greener pastures up in the northwest.
Remember, If you want your news included in future editions of MBlurbs, put us on your e-mail list.
Graham Strachan, former lead singer/songwriter for the much beloved but long-suffering and now defunct Robb Roy, has pinged the local music radar wth a recent e-mail. He's kept busy since parting amicably with mates Mike, Duane and John. In fact, he's more than likely already been in your living room at some point in the last year - via a Ford, Toyota, TCF Bank, or St. John's Hospital commercial. You can check out the vids at Graham's new website: www.grahamvox.com. Graham's also reportedly joined some kind of songwriter's commune known as National Ghost whom he'll be performing with at Karl's Cabin in Plymouth on July 13th. .
Animal Factor is now backing 70's award-winning rock/classical keyboardist, Motown recording artist and ceaseless self-promoter Michael Quatro. The three-piece cover band from southeastern Michgian will be supporting Quatro aboard the Detroit Princess Riverboat Cruise on July 15th. Animal Factor consists of "Animal" on Guitar, Jeff Levine on Bass, and Rich McKelvey on Drums. For more information check out www.geocities.com/theanimalfactor.
Michael Quatro's credits are too long to list here, but you can check him out at www.myspace.com/michaelquatro or check out his discography at www.quatrophonic.com.
According to a recent Jambase release, Muskegon's funky soul-rock band Four Finger Five have signed a guaranteed three record deal with Portland, Oregon's Terrestrial Records earlier this spring and spent several weeks at the label's studios to record tracks for their debut major label recording, aptly titled "Four Finger Five." The full length CD is scheduled for national release later this fall.
The band plans on relocating to Portland after a summer tour, but you can still catch them live this summer. They'll be headlinging a benefit concert at downtown Muskegon's historic Frauenthal Theater immediately following the fireworks as part of the Muskegon Summer Celebration. You can also catch them on July 13th at The Michigan Peace Festival in Lacota, Michigan. Who knew there was such a thing?
